Our D40 (Navara/Frontier/Terrano) is american-built in Tennessee. So we can "Buy American".

The D40s are currently built in USA, Spain, South Africa, Thailand, Phillippines, China, Mexico, Brazil and Egypt. Everywhere except Japan...

That sounded rude.

The 'unfortunate' part of the Thailand manufacture is simply the whole Japanese background of Nissan......now contradicted by it's external manufacturing.

Just thought I'd clear that up....

It's N A V A R A

No 'e's' anywhere.

The D40 is a nice ute. We have one of those too.

We stick to Nissan's now. Unfortunately the D40 is now made in Thailand (I think. Certainly isn't made in Japan anymore).

Fair enough on the riding in the back call, but I guess for me its something i grew up with, so dont see it as a danger, ie the risk is acceptable.

On and keep away from the aliminium trays. Steel is the only way to go. Yeah its heavier, but it takes the punishment that you buy a ute for better.

At the end of the day, its really a preference thing. 99% of Australian delivered Patrol utes come with an after market steel tray, even back to G60 days and thats mostly i think caus the geuinne nissan well body tray is more expensive than a steel drop side tray.

I would hazzard a guess and say that in PNG where the aftermarket tray industry is small if at all, it makes more sense for car importers to include a tray from the factory as its just eaiser. The ute is ready to rolll from the showroom floor.

Here you have to buy the ute first, then wait a week while they send it away to get a tray made for it.
