Yeah Tooshay The early 308 brockies tweaked up well often with the use of a ford Diff and Muncie box or celica 5 speed. I like the Silhouette Skylines to just a VL Really.

i know the uc had a 6 cyl, most toranas were 6's but dropping the 8 and adding the 4 i think was about slowing it all down.
Good point about the HDT brock commodores but then they were really rare limited numbers ,
even the VL walkinshaw 5.0 was not as quick as the VL 3.0 turbo at 220kmh, and the few ford v8's around in XD or XE or fairlanes were no performance tuned options, then cancelled out altogether with the XF.
Plus the overall build quality of aust went down the dunny in the late 80's with the VN commo, EA falcon and 1st gen magnas.

the toranas were finished by the 80's, (the new commodore was about the same size) the last one was called sunbird, about 1979-80 and dropped the v8 option and replaced it with a 4cyl option. The first VB commodore released 1978 was about the same size as the torana so holden put a 4 cyl in the torana to have that as the 4cyl economical option, the last monster torana the A9x (2 dr hatchback) and SLR 5000 (4door) died out at the same time. In 1980 the VC commodore came with a 4cyl option, same motor as was used in the sunbird.
and there were no decent muscle cars built in aust either in the 80's. When the VL commodore with a nissan engine RB30 was released 1986 with a turbo option it was by far the fastest aust car at the time.

haha, didn't mean to diss the torana, I like the older ones, but that 80s model looks like a pig in a tuxedo. Well maybe that's not fair, I'm biased I guess because early '80s models here in USA were "sticker" muscle cars, cause only the stickers were fast. We had 155 HP V8s for a while, that was in the hot cars. Average sedans has 120 HP V8s. Early 80s were dark times (at least here) for car lovers.

1200 is 3/4 the size and weight of a torana
ive had heaps of v6 holdens (buick) on a trolley and heaps of a series. i know which one is heavier and by how much by the amount of effort to move the bastards.
there are other, better ways to go hard if you want handling

this is a torana!
BBC 14-71 hi helix 7.29@190

Torana appears to be GM's australia counterpart to Chevrolet Nova.

By size and general looks from late 60s
Nova ~ Torana
Monaro ~ Chevelle
Of course new Monaro = Pontiac GTO

Getting back on topic, the Holden 3.8 liter V6 (GM 3800) is our old friend the Buick V6. Nice little big engine. Up to 280 HP in factory trim (GM Typhoon pickup). That's enuf power to shake a 1200.
