At 160 in my coupe you would'nt hear any wind noise over me screaming my lungs out with fear. You guys have no idea how bad the road is out here. I saw wombat asleep on the shady side of a pot hole the other day. We break lots of cars out here. I think is why all the locals drive Land Cruisers.

At "160+" there is no wind noise in a 1200

at a cruising 4,000 RPM with the stock 3.9 gear (or a 3.8) gear the engine will last 15 years. Fit an overdrive 5-speed if you wish to reduce revs, it will help fuel economy.

Thanks for the clues, I am allready running 3.8 H145 but have choice of 3.8 H150 or B/W ex 78 120Y sedan(gotta pick it up from Farm)I think I have the final drive sorted. I guess I have gotten used to driving my Aurion up and down. That thing ain't happy till it is at 160+.
What is wrong with a bit of road noise? The sound of the wind whistleing through the 1/4 glass, the whine of a slightly worn pinion, that ever so sentual vibration in your hand of the primative, nay, primal suspension. Isn't this not what makes Dattos, Dattos? Is this not why we are totaly possessed by them?

For sure! man, must be quiet somthing living so far out!

I have the BW 3.89 in my 1200 with a 2007 ute (south african champ) 5sp box, cruizes at 130-140kph with ease with my A15 (though the wind noise gets a bit old! )

Good luck!

Howdy,

Sounds like you need to fit a
3.88 : 1 diff so the little bugger
will live longer at highway speeds.
C20 vanette (h165) would do the trick.

Cheers

Geoff

Thanks for the photos great help. As for what power and rpm: Just going to see what I get as long as it is bullet proof. The miles we have to travel out here in the bush take their toll on little motors. You tend to get them out on the hiway and stick it to it just getting from a to b. The closest main town to me here is Roma and that is 3hrs drive away. So quicker a bit torquer than stock is good, reliable is key.
Thanks again.

Sounds like your going pretty hard core on that motor with stainless valves ectr. What power and RPM are you aiming at?

Hey All,
I have to swap out the plant in my coupe. I have a late model A12 to do the job. All I need is a couple of clear photos of the engine mount setup just to give me a better idea of what I have to knock up. This is only going to be a temp job as the department of fiscial dispersments has oked my application for funding to rebuild my original motor. I was going to go for predominatly ACL components; Hi Comp Premium Pistons with Moly Core Rings, S/S Valves, Phospher Bronze seats,Tighe Cam with Hi Ten gears. I am not sure about a good quality bearing. In years back I used a Tri-Metal from Hastings. I have an A14 head that is in need of a clean up. I think I have every thing covered. I suppose what I want achieve is a very strong relieable every day driver with a suprise under her skirt. So am I going down the right path? If anyone has any sujestions I would like to hear from them.
