Looks like Wednesday is the day when Mike's blue monster gets rego. ' Anyone want to rent 2 identical compact limo's for their wedding? If Rueby ever finishes we could have a matching fleet!

Here's what vicroads had to say about it: Ive yet to find the clause about...any engine is ok as long as its not over 20% more powerful...or whatever Ive heard ppl say so often.
Change of engine 1. Replacement engine is identical to the original engine, or is an option allowed by the manufacturer for the same model vehicle The optional engine must be offered in Australia by the vehicle manufacturer as an option for that vehicle (or certified variants). The change of engine may be recorded by VicRoads provided that the registered operator or a motor mechanic, or dealer in that make of vehicle or an Automotive Engineer signs a declaration certifying the engine is optional for the vehicle model, and that all modifications made by the manufacturer for the same vehicle model with that optional engine have been completed.
You will need to attend a VicRoads Customer Service Centre to have the vehicle's engine inspected to confirm the new engine details. No appointment is required. You will also need to complete a Change of Vehicle Description form [PDF 24kb].
2. Replacement engine is not of a type offered by the vehicle manufacturer as an option for that vehicle or where alterations, or changes to the vehicle's frame or structure are made, and/or specially fabricated supports or structures are used You will need to attend a VicRoads Customer Service Centre for an inspection of the vehicle to confirm the new engine details. You will also need to complete a Change of Vehicle Description form [PDF 24kb] and provide VicRoads with:
* a VASS Approval Certificate from a VicRoads Vehicle Assessment Signatory * an original receipt for the purchase of the engine as proof of ownership of the engine
I can see grey areas in both, but I dont like the look of option 2 hmmm ( things like proving ownership of engines going to be a PIA for me) :/

in SA they specify disc brake front for a14 into a 1000, diff states diff rules. a mechanic told me its actually rare to see a a10 left in a 1000 most get upgraded, because they dont record the engine number on the original compliance plate theres not any hassle when u drop a bigger a in, but they badly in need of disc brakes anyway.

Mal, of course an a15/14 is fine in a 1k. Hec I got the offical approval from the licensing dept for a turbo a15, so a standard unit is easy peasy.

Hmm ya got a point, but if were talking legalities, is a verbal assurance by a pit guy enough to clear you of culpability?

Yep, I expected him to say a 1200 would be OK but an engineer would be needed for anything bigger. When I take my lazy - arse mate's car back over the pits, I will ask the same question and see what gives. If keeping it legal was going to cost $1000 to fit an A15, I would just bung in an A12 instead. It is not a fear of a yellow sticker but a fear of my insurance Co walking away from me in case of a bingle!

So you reckon he said it was OK without engineers papers? Im sweating over this a bit myself as the wagon has an A15 in it, even got to the point of booking an appointment with the engineer before canceling coming to the conclusion that running the gauntlet at vicroads would be cheaper than an engineer...around $70 vs $1000, no possibility of resale just yet so I have no motive getting certificate for that.
When I went to get my ute regoed it was slated as a high-risk IMPORT inspection because it was from Tasmania...go figure! I remember stressing every detail, even borrowed a pedal rubber off Ange, when it came to go over the pits, they didnt even look inside the car, took down engine #, Vin and said thanks for coming...hoping for the same luck this time round.
If I get knocked back then its off to the Engineers, a gamble im willing to take... Stay tuned!!!
