I do agree with "whats money if your having fun", but only to a point, in my case it just takes longer to save up, problem is, once I have saved up, I have added 10 more ideas.

1200GXman will be getting the webers at the first signs of eating the SU's up while exiting a corner. fark, that 36DCD had teeth marks in it, had me going nuts on each gymkhana run.

Hold onto the GX stuff for as long as possible. I'm so proud of the fact that I'm putting the GX head, intake and carbies on the A14 and this in a country that only has Weber knowledge.

like the trend seems to say, keep it you'll regret getting rid of it,
the Datto is a hobby and something that makes you happy, keep it you wife will learn to appreciate it, otherwise you'll need another hobby, and in all reality it's a cheap hobby..

I've purchased 2 GX exhausts, for myself and sold them both to Speedway.. it was too tempting and I'm broke.. :(

Yea, think I am gonna take your advice and hold on to it for a while longer. It is not as if I REALLY need to do it right now or anything.

Yep.

I have two kids and I'm 23. Uni is getting ridiculous at the moment and I run my own consultant service that pulls about AU$650 a week.

Try making that money stretch for an entire week, sometimes I wish I could shuffle back home to enjoy the cheap standard of living ($2 a beer at the pub!).

2 and a half years left of uni and I'll have two degrees and a masters. THEN the ball will start rolling.

GXman, hang onto the setup. Fark, if you really swapped it, you would be going backward.

But if you did. I think you'd have a deal quicker than you think.

Don't do it man.

The problem is the following:
I am married to a wife that hates my Datsun.
I have a baby boy of 17 months old and it's winter here.
Now you see my problem. I don't have money and if I do get money I am not allowed to spend on the datto.
I must admit I do hear what my wife is saying. The car is not driven enough to fully enjoy the money that would go into it. Hell, I skipped this weekend AGAIN to take it for a drive. So it would have been driven 2 weeks ago now.
Not really a use to spend on something that is not used enough. Now I also went before we were married and bought a complete GX engine for the "just in case something brakes" scenario which with the current usage trend will not happen shortly.
So I thought about getting rid of the GX stuff and buy some stuff to boost performance on the car.
Ag well, maybe I must keep the GX stuff and dream of the weber growl under the bonnet.

"no longer of great interest to me"

Yeah okay, they are of some interest to me but the prices are seriously outrageous.

Where is my 'GX' bargain, dammit!!?

I would think your biggest profit would be selling the items separately.

Selling the set complete probably wouldn't fetch as much. Unless you find the right buyer. And it depends where your priorities lie.

From what's been selling lately:

GX carbs & Manifold: AU$300-600

GX exhaust Manifold: AU$250-450

GX Air Cleaner Housing: AU$150 (damaged)-300 (Japan import)

GX Head: AU$250-450 (depending on condition and or work done to increase performance).

Complete GX engine: AU$1600 running (with the right buyer).

The parts that seem to be fetching the best prices are the GX manifolds. The speedway boys find these very beneficial as their mechanical/manufacturer guidelines are limited/restricted.

To tell you the truth the market is pretty erratic, low ball figures appear every now and then with members recognizing the parts (and/or lack of knowledge on the sellers behalf), but generally the profit is in separation.

Sad if you have to separate because a complete setup is simply so uncommon (when up for sale anyway). If I were you I'd hang onto it as you have a piece of history that is really difficult to come by.

You spoke of swapping for webers in another thread. Would it be that much trouble to just invest in a setup without having to swap?

As far as I'm concerned GX parts have just reached a milestone and now attract unreasonable prices, no longer of great interest to me and typically far beyond my budget!! I feel for the low income fanatics just like me, when the letters 'GX' are mentioned.

The most recent (almost complete) setup went for AU$800 on ebay not too long ago.
