I've looked in the Wiki at the AC setups & as unfamila says it's the size of the unit eating into the footwell area. If one could do it, it sure would be nice to have AC. Since I planned on remaking the glovebox due to the cardboard ones being all ratty I was thinking behind there might work for fitting in a evap box. I also saw a rear floor heater setup in a Toyota 4runner & that got me thinking about finding a rear air unit & perhaps installing it behind the back seat. There aren't too many places to squirrel an evap setup away in a 1200. I've come up with a lot of ideas, just not sure if any of them are good.
I found a complete AC system off a 2007 KIA thats intact for pretty cheap so i think I'll buy it and see if I can get it fitted, its new enough to warrant playing around with it.
Anybody else got any ideas, bring em on!

1200s did not have factory a/c. They were dealer-fitted aftermarket kits. So you could definitely fit your own. For ideas and photos see Tech wiki: Air conditioning

there are some underdash units available after market, i have a factory sunny one but needs a few mods for the passenger footwell area to fit (the ac set up not the car)
and also a dealer fitted under dash unit.
The problems is the size under the passeger dash area, and the intrusion into the foot well.

Since I've started down the path of rebuilding this A15 & it has the bosses on the block for an AC unit it got me thinking about how to fit a different/modern system into the car. I think one could fairly easily install the condenser, dryer, compressor, hoses, switches & the like, its the evaporator/fan & controls assembly that seems difficult. Its almost like one would need to fab the evap/fan setup with a small evaporator, probably bought aftermarket.
Anyone of you guys ever done this or attempted it? I know there's some aftermarket AC systems similar to the original 1200 AC style but there bulky & kinda fugly, I'd like something almost unnoticeable if possible.
Any brilliant ideas out there?
thx!
