i normally run a 63a 5 speed, but it had a bit of gear noise in it so i decided to pull it out and swap the whole setup over so i could run at bathurst at easter and now oran park but the 4 speed obviously had other ideas. i know have another 63a 5 speed to use as parts so it will be rebuilt and have all of my hydraulic setup put back in.
in the first one that broke, the bearing the tailshaft runs on separated from the extension housing and went down into the gear set... yummy mess. the other one blew a brand new genuine seal. and the 56 blew the whole seal out lol. maybe that tailshaft yoke is undersize and is floping around. o well i have another shaft to use with the 63a so all should be good.
at least it wasnt an engine.

hi guys i had a run at oran park on the weekend with the festival of sporting cars and had a pretty dismal weekend which started out with doing 8 laps of practice on saturday, and having a gearbox oil seal fail in my 60 series 4 speed. so we then rang around trying to find any datsun gearbox, mainly a 56 series and one of the wreckers wanted $660 exchange for a bloody second hand standard 56 series 4 speed. (insert plenty of swearing there) so the trip back to bathurst was made to get another gearbox, and put it in with the car on the trailer and then go down to the 120y in the paddock and strip its gearbox as a spare. then up again at 3am for the trip back to oran park. so with the first run missed we started on the second one from the back of the pack and made my way through about 15 cars in 5 laps. then it blew that seal in gearbox. so more swearing was had, esspesially when they anounced over the loudspeaker that my dorian wasnt working. we then swapped that gearbox over to the 120y 4 speed in about half an hour inbetween the events. and then we got 2 laps out of that gearbox. so im staring to think i have a problem lol. and having only got one clean lap without traffic i was a bit unimpressed. but i spose i will just have to come back bigger and better next time.
cheers kurt
