Sounds like Sports Sedans will be your best bet, with the mods you have outlined.

Bert makes some very good points, once you have selected a class to run in, you need to know the CAMS manual inside & out. It is often referred to as the bible, and you need to know what you can & can't do.

I'm not sure about the sports sedan guys, but in Improved Production we have an "elegibility officer". While they don't really have any power officially, they are there to help interpret the CAMS manual and guide people with their modifications. Might be worth contacting the QLD branch of the Sports Sedan Association to see if they have someone who can also answer your questions.

Good mate,know Pauls car quite well and it looks like your on the right track,my main concirn is that some guys jump in at the deep end without enough research,cut the crap out of the chassis and end up with something that does'nt conform to the regs,also allow plenty of cash and time as your looking at many thousands of cash and hours to create something to this level.
I'm sure you'll be fine if you keep doing your homework.

As a rough guide allow around 10-12K for a n/a A series car to be built to basic specs with standard floor and chassis doing all the fabrication and engine work yourself,thats what they cost me anyway,and there have been 6 in the last 10 years or so for various friends.

yeah i have been trawling through that cams manual for days now and all should be good if i race in sports sedan 3d class, but am contacting qrda for some advice on these things as i think that is most likely the club i will join too.

Read the cams manual before you do anything,unless you only want to go drag racing!

thanks for the input, crossmembers and mountings will not be a prob as im going full tube chassis, and fabricating wishbone front end too so brakes etc all good too.

3J improved production or 2E sports sedan are the best possibilities, so I second Bert's suggestion. An SR20DE+T built like Mark Alford's will make more than enough horsepower (say 350-400) with a lot of torque, too. An S12 Gazelle H190 diff housing allows a range of ratio's, a Series 3 bluebird/gazelle g/box with an SR20 front will handle the power & not take too much cutting to fit, a 76-78 120Y manual pedal box looks to be the best bolt in to get the clutch M/C mounted & a fabricated crossmember going to the stock bolt holes should hold that in nicely. Light weigh & good speed & all those brake conversions for the Silvia's & 200SX's will work.

Well Billybuilt,you could use a Sunny with SR Turbo under CAMS regs. in Improved Production(with intake restrictor)or Sports Sedan class(no restrictor)with even more freedoms.
Look up the cams manual on line.
All Q'land hillclimbs run under cams regs as do all the street sprints,Maryborough in June being your closest.

Alternatly any AASA event at Q/Raceway almost anything goes up to 2500cc and 2501cc and over at there Top Gear sprints and races.

a little help from our racing friends would be nice, i have a spare shell from a sunny b310, am keen to have a go at a full chassis race car, what classes exist to race such a car in, i thought a sr20det as power plant. i am in rockhampton but would travel to brissy to race the car and line it up at local drags for test and tune, due to lack of any other kind of local track. also considered runnin in a local hill climp event.
