Was planning on using it for a quick street car, occasional hill climbs where possible, have ca18det, r31 lsd, doing alot of the conversion all at once with suspension/motor etc, as the diff and coil overs will change offset so i gotta get some new wheels, i didn't really want to swap the motor first hand as i would toast the stock diff, and neither do i want to get the tail shaft changed after i get it made.

There is no way i wanna drive a car with stock suspension and a quick motor, I would like the car to handle at least to its speed.

Might just go get them reset lower, I would rather do it right, gunna fabricate up my own caltrak setup as i cant seem to find anyone who makes them anymore.

Well townie, your about to open a pandoras box.As Jmac said ask youself why you want to do anything and if your answer makes sence then ask what application you wish to use the car for.
Now head for a good book store and order a book called"how to make your car handle" by Fred Puhn, there are others around but i have found this one to be easy to read and still use it when stuck on a problem...and i'm ancient.
Lastly put your suburb details in your account as help can sometimes be closer than you think.

Cheers
Bert

I suppose it also depends on the application. Std motor can tolerate somewhat looser springs ok, you need more stiffness to help prevent axle tramp with a higher output engine (or use traction bars).

Then it's about ride height and whether it's for drag racing or circuit or what. flipping spring eyes to get it lower will affect launch a fair bit as it has hte axle centreline higher than the front spring pivot point, so it sort of unloads the rears at launch. for a dedicated drag racer, you'd want the opposite, so it would push the tyres down and try and lift the rear of the car up on launch, adding yet more downforce. It might not actually lift the rear, just the directions the forces would be going in.

get them reset professionally if you can afford it, bar that flip a leaf to lower it and add another to stiffen it.

setting up a 1200 for coil overs would be a pita, beteer off spending cash on reset leaves and upgrading the rear assembly to h165 or brog warner set up.

So i was just gunna rock up the local suspension shop and hit em up about better leaf springs and such, but have just viewed the tech wiki and seen some discussion on rear coilovers, i take it this would involve cutting the top of the shock tower and welding in a flat plate with a few holes for a strut top and then getting some type of shock that comes with a spring seat on it? or welding half of a front strut onto the diff to house a shock/coilover kit? is this idea even worth it over well sorted leaf suspension?

as for leaf suspension, better to buy some complete sets or get mine reset/inverted? i have never had a car with leafs before and have no idea bar what i have read around on how to modify them, i Havent had the best luck searching for good options for this.

any help is well appreciated in advance

Cheers.
