You have to make the 8v head work for you either in piston/chamber/ports or all.
Look forward to seen your NA hybrid beast project.

here is my thread on the 8v ca20e/ ca18de hybrid.

Thanks for the input.

My thought was to use a CA18DET bottom end with the rear wheel drive transmission, then bolt the best 8-valve, sohc "CA" head onto it. (Either CA16; CA18 or CA20 head.)

ca18et engine has the thin rods and smaller bolt sizes.

Why not just use a CA18ET engine? Already has the SOHC head. Available in US. Remove the turbo. I reckon you will fit custom pistons in any case.

Exactly thats why Im building a ca18de block with ca20e head which is what
I suggest unless you mod the ca16 head with bigger valves and custom camshaft.

You can do as you suggested but will need custom head bolts as the 8v head has
thinner and shorter head bolts.

The ca16 head could have smaller chambers which could be a bonus but Im thinking
they are the same as the ca18 8v heads.

Because youll need better camshafts there are plenty of parts from other enthusiasts
so I suggest you use any 8v head you can find peter.

Im thinking of welding up the chambers and re-shaping them to wedge shape and only
using a single spark plug on the exhaust side. Also weld up the inlet side sparkplug
area to enlarge the inlet ports in width and raise their height.
More like the inlets of the renault 807 gordini motors which had rectangular ports.
Ill put my link to my build soon.

Are all of the Nissan CA heads interchangeable?

Can I put a CA16 (8-valve sohc) head on a CA18DET block? [We are not allowed to use turbo in our race rules and the weight advantage for a single cam head 8-valve head is too big to ignore.]

If possible, which are the best single cam, 8-valve CA heads? Thanks, Peter
