The title to this thread is absolutely hilarious.

Thanks, it's started my day off with a laugh!

Good luck getting it all sorted, sounds like you've knocked some teeth out of the diff. Cheers.

Re: Need help, Vibration in rear end.
turn it off or take the batteries out. if you are worried that taking your diff head out and that putting in another may not make a difference, you could try pulling it out, and inspecting it, if it is viberating it could be crownwheel/pinion failing, pinion bearings, crownwheel carrier bearings, spider and side gears in the nest failing, lack of preload on pinion bearings or crownwheel carrier bearings, all of which can be seen with the diff head on you bench, it could also be rear wheel bearings, but you will see if it is these as you pull them out when you go to remove your diff head. even just putting your car on stands and taking off the driveshaft and moving and turning parts may help you decide the area to attack first, have you drained the oil and inspected it? 2 fantas and you would have the job done, unless your on the big bottles, if there is nothing wrong, all it will cost you is a $8 bottle of diff oil and $5 worth of sealant, and a bit of time, action front learning at the same time, if its bearings, its easy to rebuild your axels and diff, all good. its not recomended as you might stuff it up, but safely chocked and up on safety stands, respecting the safety, you could run it in gear and pin point exactly where the noise is coming from, but be safe, as i would hate your mum or mrs to chase me down. hope it works out ah mate.

Yes, these Datsun diffs rarely go bad. My H145 is 38 years and still just the same as when new. You can get H165s (as in your ute) from the mid eighties, so only 25 years old

I did have one go low on oil, and it whined, but never went bad, drove it for 10 years after topping up the oil.

Occasionally one will go bad but as far as I have seen it is only when abused (oil level not watch, drag raced, donut-burning, etc).

Its a 77 ute, but not sure its worth putting in a second hand centre as I could just end up with the same problem, anything I put in would be at least 30 years old.
