the rack is out of a holden barina "swing" model not shure what year but it is a european opel variant . it is shortened to suit my bump steer requirements. it also has pulsar steer rods and tie rod ends to suit the lower control arm length and the s15 stub axles and uprights>

i'm playing with a few gearbox options, a split case 5 speed toyota (t50 i think) and a 6 speed mazda mx5 , my preference is the six speed but it will require a lot more work to squeeze it in . Not up to the gearbox phase yet though . The next major job is the rear end .

Yup I realised that, I just thought for the people who might be looking at donor racks. It may be a good place to start. At least if the track is similar the rack has got a better chance of being the right size What gearbox are you using behing the cg13de? Keep us posted on the project, certainly a well made car so far.

yes the power rack may be overkill but i plan to run a fair bit of caster , if it has not got the feel im after i have a manual rack also but it has a slower ratio. as for the daihatsu donor racks it's not the track of the wheels that is important it is the distance between the pivot balls on the rack that is important for bump steer set up.

I thought the give away would have been the fact all the file names start with power rack :)
Beautiful work there ward, I'm loving the engine choice, tough little motors them. Also those rack mount brackets are beautifully engineered, spot the CNC machinist! :)
Just for info sake, Daihatsu Mira's (early 90's ones) have a track width of 1210mm (b110 = 1240mm) they may be another good candidate that may not need modifying. Not sure if they were ever available with power steer and no idea on whether they would give steering lock to match the 1200's

Power? This seems crazy to me. Why a power rack on such a light car?
