Dont worry I wont be going efi to many wires for me. Yeah I will look into getting some insulators. I will get to have a bit more of a play with the car today and see what I can do with the engine and if I can reposition it.

Can't rotate the motor a little bit? Those insulators are only about $30 a pair, much cheaper than efi.

Can you angle and lower the motor slightly with a different engine mount/s, I have no idea if that would be ok with a FWD datsun? I notice your not running insulators between the manifold and the carbs either... vibrations will cause fuel to froth and crack the ears on either carbs or manifold.

another idea could be to scollop that area of the firewall but that seems like the same amount of effort or even more then the other one.

You could also angle the manifold up by machining the mounting face. The firewall technique is mention in the how to race your datsun book, it says you could draw cool air from the waterbox section of the firewall where it has the added benifit of being a high pressure zone on the car away from dust.

Why not cut an inch or so out of the middle of a standard manifold and weld it back together?
