The 'bubble top' was the P51D & it's true that some received the camouflage scheme, however by early 1945 the Alies had control of the sky over Europe & in the Pacific & it was deemed that camouflage was no longer necessary, so new planes were left in bare metal finish.

Horrible! Should be named "why bother"

Its right there in the same category as those cars people glue all kinds of goofy little blocks & junk to trying to make god knows what - you all know what I'm talking about.

P51 "bubble-top" style Mustangs had these paint schemes I think.

Speaking of fighter planes, some bloke dug up a Japanese Zero in his back yard when I was at home over the Uni break, not bad for a weekend find.

We have alot of aircraft at home in Rabaul, There are a few Zero's in the shallow water out the front of my place. Then there are a few B25 Mitchell's around the place.

Ummmmmmmmm, NO.
It's a car, not a plane.

That paint scheme, particularly the shark mouth, was used on AVG P40's in 1941, several years before the P51 was seen in general operational service, & months before the US was dragged into WW2

The shallower chin radiators of the P40B allowed the sharkmouth to look particularly fearsome.
