$250 per pedestal - is that per pedestal or per 'set' of pedestals? Bloody hell, I bought (an admittedly past it's 'highly accurate lifespan') milling machine for $500. It's fine for smaller stuff like this, it only becomes an issue if I needed half a thou accuracy over say 80-100cm. I can't machine heads with it, for example but things like bump steer spacers and the like are fine.

The design will be simplified and I hope to have some of these made in 2014.

I eventually got around to getting these priced and they ended up costing out at $250 per pedestal!!

With the quoted amount I could have purchased a machine to do the job!

Well there you go, more surprises!

Back to the pedestals; request for manufacture (quotations) have been submitted to numerous professionals and we should see a set over the next couple of weeks.

Hopefully the prototype will bring some more interest to the table.

Since ALL A series cams are interchangeable within all A series blocks they ALL have this oil gallery drilling along their length.

OK, yes I know that an A10 or 1200 cam in a 1974 or later block will be missing the distributor drive gear but the later cam will work in the earlier block, just remove the fuel pump & blank off the hole.

Is this also for earlier camshafts?

Quite right you are too, & that's why the A series camshafts are already hollow.
The plug in the back of the shaft makes the drilling oiltight.

This is just one lobe that was forcibly removed from an A15 camshaft by a wayward rod & the drilling can clearly be seen.

As usual, click on the image for full size picture.

The drilling is an oil gallery. Enlarging it really just weakens the cast shaft & allows strong double valve springs to deflect it when under load, partly negating the lift & timing specs. I'm not aware of any engine builder that increases the diameter of this drilling in A series camshafts, either for weight reduction or any other reason.

Hollow camshafts are used on the best engines in the world
commonly mass produced in things like the old famous suzuki g13b.
Ill get a quote tomorrow just as a sep thing.

Looking forward to your final designs.

Yeah the finished design is a little different but I'll let it all out when they're ready to be manufactured.

Thanks for the recommendation on the base thickness, I think I'd be stupid to leave it at 3mm huh?

Not sure what to expect out of hollowing the camshaft? Wouldn't that just ruin the centrifugal weight dispersion making it more prone to deformation?
