I dunno for sure, but it should be able to go on any intake fitting which is as large as the Purge Hose on the canister.

The diaphragm on the canister controls the release to the engine, so that it does not create a vacuum leak.

The vacuum hose goes to the distributor vacuum port. Dunno where/if a CA18 has this.

It's only three line on the 1200's canister, not too difficult.

Later Australia utes used charcoal canister, like this 1985 model. It is the black canister bolted to the left strut tower (right side of photo):

The canister is the same as fitted to B310 and other 1970s/1980s Datsuns.

Yes, that is Fume Control. It prevents the petrol fumes from entering the atmosphere.

Datsun1200.com wiki has details: http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawi ... ex.php?title=Fume_Control

In older 1200s, the valve at the front goes to the air cleaner.
In newer 1200 utes, it goes to the Charcoal Cannister.

my understanding of it, is that you need to run your fuel tank vent into
the canister and then into your intake manifold via a 1 way valve..
(usually via the pcv system)

the cannister is just there to store any vapour while there is no vacuum to
recyle it..
