with great difficulty. I agree Id go the early a12, a14 crank, 77 flat top isuzu gemini pistons, downdraft weber, good exhaust, mild cam and good ignition. Only problem is the gearbox and diff, the h150 3.545 would be the best thing with an overdrive 5 speed. The T5 worldclass borgwarner is looking better every day after playing with it recently. 2.95, 1.9, 1.3, 1:1, .75

I just used the leaf spring front end as an example of how basic the suspension is in the 1000, even compared to the 1200. My Aunts friend has a 1969 1000 sedan I'd love to buy, how many column shift auto's did they sell, & he's had it since it was 6 months old. It already has an A12 (fitted back in the mid 70's for more grunt), so I'd fit the A12 with an A14 crank, A15 pistons etc to be 1400cc , fit a factory 70 degree cam with a downdraught weber, do the Sigma front discs & calipers conversion using some 120Y hubs, fitted later model rear brakes to the stock rear end, & then restore/recondition the rest of the car to look as stock as possible. Some lawn bowls hats on the back parcel shelf for affect, too. Bald Hills Lawn Bowls - Bowl it like you stole it!.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

i think its a little silly unless u plan to upgrade the suspension. i have a a12 in mine which hoots and that can be dangerous. a stock a12 makes a 1000 ute do 3rd gearys. i would imagine u would get no traction what so ever with a CA

Toyota guys go the ca18det over 4agze more capacity same weight once turboed Although the 4agze is heavier. The 4age is not better than a ca or it bigger brother that does deserve the cheese the famous Pikes peak winning 3sge. Another engine to consider which is ligther than the mentioned is a jap import qr20de from the some jap utes with the 5 speed in rwd.

Leaf springs have nothing to do with it
The issue is weight and making the thing stop handle and turn properly
If you can make all that happen then its an easy do
CA18 is suprisingly almost identical length to an A series But yes its a tight fit... need to clearance a few places , make mounts , make a new tunnel , find a suitable diff that can take it
Lots of work... but doable
Consult engineer FIRST !!!
