The only restriction to radiator cap pressure is what pressure your system will hold. Too much pressure you will spring a leak!

The point of a radiator cap to raise pressure is to raise the boiling point of the coolant. As the prssure rises so does the boiling point, in this way you get a few extra degrees of temp before boiling the coolant.

From wikipedia:

The boiling point of water is 100 °C (212 °F) at standard pressure. On top of Mount Everest, at 8,848 m elevation, the pressure is about 260 mbar (26.39 kPa) and the boiling point of water is 69 °C. (156.2 °F). The boiling point decreases 1°C every 285 m of elevation.


So you can see low pressure equals low boiling point.

My Radiator cap is from MMC 4DR5 Jeep or Willis jeep, i don't know what exactly PSI amount on it

It has no practical purpose. I don't know of any automotive radiator caps with "too high" pressure for Datsun.

The most common caps are 14 psi. With 180F/82C thermostat, you can use them or a lower pressure cap.

Hi Guys

Just wanted to share your knowledge on radiator cap PSI rate and compared to it the engine temperature ? as i remember my Radiator cap is not the stock probably from heavy vehicle or equipment i guess, will that may have any effect on my car Heating ? Like Increased PSI to Increase engine temp or decrease engine temp ?
