i used POR15 on the wagon, cut any rust out that was bad as i dont think there it much point trying to convert metal that is already #OOPS#ed
only used it on surface rust that could pretty much be sanded off anyway, but used the converter for peice of mind...cant really say if its worked or not, maybe get back to me in 4 or 5 years and i'll let you know

one thing to mention though, make sure you scrub the stuff off really well as it is acid, so if you leave it there the metal will just rust again. and it will do it much quicker than if there wasnt acid there

The rust converter is mainly phosphoric acid with zinc oxide, butyl Cellusolve, copper carbonate and nitric acid. Is the swelling is caused by the delayed reaction of copper carbonate is triggered only by high temperature? or is it popping are all caused by Zn reacts with acid.

you say the rust is right throu, these are the areas that you need to cut out and replaise asap, the rust only bicums wors and fast. I segest these areas get first attention. If you can get another section and replace the hole thing. In too three years it might have spread too the chessy, and that is so unnesesery, many prob too.

I understand the money isent allways there, but youll save alot in the long run.

well i have some surface rust in my engine bay and prob some on the rear quarters (but havnt sanded the quarters back yet so not sure)anyways the bottom of my tray is pretty much packed full of rust but i dont want to be cutting it out just yet. im going to get it on the road stock and then in a yr or two and a few more dollars start looking at other mods. So the back tray has a kind of "chicken pox" look to it in areas. Some of the dots has even rusted clean holes straight through :S. But because i dont want to be cutting chunks and chunks of rusted metal out here there and everywhere im going to try and cut the worst parts out and jest weld over the other and fix with either bog or some more stronger stuff like fibre glass bog i think? anyways all suggestions, opinions and help much appreciated!! cheers

+1 for what D said except the sucking balls bit. Also depends on what level of rust you have. On my ute, I had bits flacking off so I cut and welded new sections. In other areas I had surface rust with pitting which I kept applying rust remover and scrub till it all comes out. .
