An A12 gearbox won't live long behind an A14. For that you should fit an A14 4-speed or A14 5-speed.

For 5-speeds, see our Datsun1200.com article 5-Speeds. What fits the ute fits the 1200 coupe and sedan, it's all the same.

i'd say find the 5 speed box best mod ive done soo far... after i built my engine and put the carbys on the 4speeds werent strong enough i belw 4 g/boxes in 2 months so i decided to put in the 5 speed box cost me $1200 and its lasted a good 4 months or so...
theyre hard to find and not easy on the wallet compared to a 4 speed which u can pick up for next to nothing but well worth the cash!!
i have a dogleg 5 speed spare in good condition not using it because of the reverse gear is up where first normally is and scared to take off backwards at traffic lights

If you can find a sunny (B310) 60 series 5 speed it is virtually a bolt in job (need to mod the crossmember, see the wiki). Stronger box than the std 56 series 4 speed but also hard to find and expensive because of it.. Will handle a A14/15 without to many dramas..
