The tube i am going to use is 38mm diameter so not to big at all. Be able to get it up tight to the roof and down the A piler. Il also look into the rules for vic when it comes time.

yeh good point, most of the cops here only think they know what they are talking about.. which i spose is actually worse then if they did!.. will just have to call the rta and see what the go is. If i cant have one i wont, pretty simple.

Oh and Bob its in a sedan so i have a bit of space to work with

A full cage in a ute would be awful sqeezy.If you are just doing basic club stuff it isn't needed. I would be more inclined to instal a bullbar as most club day damage is in the front not the roof.
As for your rear end , real good shocks and soften it up by loosing the overload springs.

haha no its safe to say that it wouldnt be very comfortable! I dont intend to actually circuit race it, mainly just track days and the like. Just want a cage for the safety if anything, even if its no technically required

I heard in NSW that if the engineer will approve it its all good, so ill have to do some ringing around i spose

Oh well il be getting the whole car engineered so it will just be another thing. Already onto a guy to build it and he knows what he is doing with all the regs and bar sizes. So i may still go ahead with it when im at that stage. I dont think a role over in a 1200 would be very nice with out a cage lol.

but basically, in vic your cage requires engineer approval. if you can get an engineer to sign it off, vicroads will register it.

That's balls. Even in a ute? Well wouldn't be much of a cage... I will look into that more and possibly try and say I have been building my car for a couple of years and get away with it like your mate ANGE lol.

recently in vic (within the last 12 months) they introduced a new rule which doesnt
allow any rollover protection bars forward of the driver seat.

i know this becuase a mate of mine was able to get an exemption to this rule because
it was introduced while his car was still in the build, ie after his cage was built but before his car was registered.

its a shame, apparently all of a sudden roll cages block your driving vision.

I am thinking of putting a cage in as well and from what i have looked into so far.
Cams dont like bolt in cages any more and the main hoop needs to go across the back then your piece down the A piller also a little intrusion bar from main hoop to bottom of A piller.
There legal in vic but there is regs on it as to how thick the cage can be and how far from your head rest and so on.
