I've been reading up on pod filters on the web and some people say that a pod filter on a carb actually reduces the performance of the carb since the stock air filter actually gets more air....this true?

By the way thank-you ericsb210!....your little trick is working while I wait to buy a 32/36 from someone. Cheers.

Hey are you tring to hold your whole air cleaner assemble with just that one stud/wingnut that goes through the center?? Cause i belive you are missing the two other brackets that hold the air cleaner lower housing to the manifold. that one bolt aint never going to do it alone and is really only to just hold the top plate and air filter in place. cheers tom

i've got a little airfilter on mine that is held on with basically a big hose clamp the goes around the round to of the carb. No need for centre bolt and i've never had a problem with it in 4-5 years (touch wood). Cost $40ish??

This is not a permanent fix, but easy and cheap. Cut a small piece of an aluminum can hold the piece carefully with a pair of needle nose and insert it in the carby and double nut the rod and spin into the carby. The aluminum will act as a heli coil. Put a piece of cloth in the carb first so as not to drop anythinf down the barrel. Hope this helps

Go the 32/36, Probably the best upgrade you could get to begin with, that and some extractors. Both of which come up for sale here regularly at a fraction of the cost of an ebay $600 jobby. Clyon's estimate sounds about right.

Put a WTB ad up.I'm sure there's at least a few members here with one in the shed doing nothing.

I think you deserve one for the duct tape kludge and diagram alone ;)

checked scrapyard at your hood? maybe you can pull a part. here in malaysia, a datsun is a must in a scrapyard. some mazda's carb is plug and play with datsun, they are also hitachi's... check out the carb mounting hole.

Is that a carb setup from Gemparts? (the one you're looking to buy?)

You can cut your costs by getting it all on your own.

Weber Carb $150, Second hand Weber adapter plate $25.00, air filter $50.00 ?? But then I guess you'll have to muck around with jetting etc (but you'd have to tune the off-the-shelf setup anyway)

Love the drawing BTW.

Haha thanks. Probably not a good idea to drive it like this eh?

So it seems to me from a quick web search that a new A15 32/36 weber conversion kit is around 600 bucks. I thought of maybe ditching the dodgy air cleaner and doing this instead to my stupid carb: Is it worth it?
