This should be the Borg Warner differential. This is the same as in our late 120Ys.

Relatively common diff across other makes & models also.

Asked around here some welding experts on that and the reply is all the same "Bad Idea", so disapionted but thats that and back to aquare 1, how to put traction bars on that are not visable and without removing the fueltank? Ges i'll go with some brackets on the tubes of the housing, Have seen some pics on that but for now i need to get it painted and back inside

Old school, i did replace the crouwnwheel and pinion (had on idea that they were a pair) i have't opend a diff be for so i'm learnig as i go.

Hope you got both as generally speaking the pinion and crown wheel are a matched pair. BW diffs will whine badly too if they are not setup properly.

You wont sucessfully weld to the cast section of the housing, but you can easily weld to the rear cover and the tubes of the housing.

Opened her up and yip it was broken 2 peaces on the crown wheel, pinion ok. got a reaplacement and got it installed(with a bit of help) Busy with some more TLC on it.

Any tips on welding mildsteel brackets on the castiron casing?

Yea, i get good replise on the bros worners, recon ill stick with it until i c what power my ute makes. It was fine when i still ran the Toyota 3T so a 1400t wouldend be a prob Right?

The guts of the H145 or other H diffs will not fit. They are completely different. The H series diffs are pulled apart by un bolting the front section.

The borgwarner diffs have a rear cover that is removed to access its insides. Alot of Toyota,s of the same era had these diffs so there are a range of ratios out there eg: 3.89, 4.1, 4.3 etc.

They are quite strong for there size, I had one in my CA powered coupe and it was good the whole time it was in there

The Borg Warner is a way better diff than the H145 or H150. They have the same centre as the units in Early Ford Falcon, Toyota Corrolas, Corrona, T18 ect. Tough Diff! Some of the 120y's carried them but most where H150 fitted I believe. I recon you just have the Borg Warner cleaned up, reraced, lapped and pop it back in. It can handle most anything.
