haha cheers guys i still cant win, im going to a couple tool shops tomorrow i hope and getting some kind of tool, both styles seem good ill just have to decide on the day, ill also need a new tie rod end cus in my fury i damaged the boot with a screwdriver trying to pry it loose a bit... then i smashed the thread directly with my hammer without the nut left on it.... yes i am a goose and yes i feel embarrassed that i cant seem to do this.

C'mon Ziggy harden up mate.
As Dattodude said hold one FBH horizontal and stationary against the steering arm next to the nut and use another hammer to hit the arm on the opposite side. Mostly people are not successful as the hammer blow is not square to the stud axis and the energy is lost. In 35 years I've not seen one that will not come out if done correctly. Stubborn maybe but they all come loose. Hope this helps.
BTW guys heating forged steering components is a VERY large no-no.

They both work well

* Pickle fork (wedge) fits many sizes of joints. You still need a hammer.
* Puller fits only certain sizes, but doesn't damage the grease covers. You need a wrench to turn it.

The clamp type one is better if you are going to re-use the tierods/ball joints etc., as the fork type usually #OOPS#s the rubber boots..

i used the fork style one on my inner tie rods with great success. never had an issue with the outer ones, the hammer method worked on the outer ones every time.

there seems to be 2 different kinds of tool for this job, one wedge style which you hammer in and seperet that way and the other has a kind of clamp with a screw to press the rod out... im confused as to which one will be more effective.
