Change for R31 Wheel bearings then Required Several tools & accessories are: Jack stand, Jack, Wheel brace, Bearing grease, Hammer, Pliars, Adjustable spanner, Socket set, Spanner set.

i agree with tommo, there shouldnt be that groove around the bearing if it was a flat roller one

the retaining flange on the borg warner diffs always bends...something to do with being a crappy design

Posting this up as this was discussed a few months ago and it was mentioned about the inherant problems of the cone style bearing used on the R31 diff.

The diff shop that re-buit my unit have fitted normal bearings. They have simply pulled out the bearing seat in the end of the axle housing and used a normal style bearing. Only down side I have found is the retaining flange that holds the axle in place has to be distorted slightly when you tighten the 4 bolts up. To get the required pressure on the caliper mounting.
