ive been lookimg into this lately, i have the hsd sleeve kit here, and some 1200 strut tops thanks to ssskiwi! also sourced the stanza steerin stuff!
Problem is that i dont know how far i need to shorten them unless i fit the coilovers and try them! which i dont want to do.. so the R31 inserts are shorter then the 200b ones? im unsure as to what ill do.
The car doesnt have to be overly low so im thinking maybe the standard 200b strut height may be ok.. stuffed if i know lol

You might get a good option from a Datsun owner but you will definately get the cheapest option!
Datsun drivers certainly are a frugal bunch!

like shoota said, getting a shock listing book would be the best way

but the most commonly used inserts would be 240z or r31 inserts, think z31 are also supposed to work but when i asked pedders they said they were too big to fit in the strut

i used camry inserts in the front of mine, they are way shorter than the ones i mentioned but you cant really get any decent inserts to suit. im running pedders ultra #OOPS# rip off shocks in mine and well....they are #OOPS#

i know there were another 2 inserts that were shorter again than the camry one and would fit in. but never looked into them

Yeh I know I can do that, but with all the members on here that would have done the same swap there's no point. And I'd dare say half the members on here would know more then any auto shop lol. Living 40km from the nearest store also doesn't help. The car is being built for drag racing so handling is not the main priority.. I'll be getting the hsd sleeve kit to go with them. So just wanna get some inserts organized

My recomendation would be work out how far you're going to lower it so you know how much you're going to chop off the strut. (I'm jumping the gun presuming you will need to lower it with the replacement struts you have?)
Then I'd go down to Pedders or Repco or similar and find out what length strut insert will match the strut after you've chopped the struts up to the appropriate length. They will also be able to choose the donor car that most accurately matches not only the length but the weight of the 1200 so they dampen correctly.
That's how I'll be doing it anyway! Best to get a little bit of professional advice at minimal extra cost!

Wardy,

reckon I have some std 1200 strut tops, will have a look and drop them off at same time as pick up those coilover struts which will hopefully be next week.
You can have them for free if they are there (need to get home and look under the house this weekend to confirm).
