We've been having stunning sunsets here from that ash cloud.
That 9.5 would have been terrifying. Our 7.1 was pretty frightening. As since the richter scale in exponential, the fury just beggars belief. (I was $hitting broken glass on monday with the 6.3)

I must say there has been alot of seimic activity
you way and most of the world in the last few years.
I remember listening to the story of the Chile quake
in 1960 that it was the largest recorded in history
at 9.5 on the ritcher scale and my wifes grannie had
the tsunami come to her door and she faces china not
the pacific where many died.
All the planes where cancelled here and there till today
due to the ash from Chiles erruption. Its freaky stuff

Cheers D.
The crap part is that where I live (Christchurch) used to be a swamp. So we get huge amounts of water coming up out of the groud, and the silt it brings with it. To make matters worse I work for a civic infrastructure maintenance company, so We just got real busy again. It's unreal how many huge holes in the road have just apeared from nowhere.
Also, they've revised yesterdays quake, and now say it was a 6.3. To me it felt the stongest yet. I just moved away from where the overhead wires would come down if they did, (Fortunately they didn't) and crouched down and held on.

Good to hear you are all safe Bart. NZ is such a scenic treasure due to
the seismic activity over millions of years but lucky no nuke plants in NZ
as the japs are poisoning the world with theirs :(

my sympathy for all who suffer earthquakes.

now i feel really thankful to god, Malaysia is just near the hot spot. still, Malaysians can feel the earth shaking just a little bit every time there's earthquake nearby especially in indonesia... nothing serious though.

Keep the updates coming, are they able to issue warnings yet or is it still unpredicatable?

The Vulcanologists at home are able to predict seismic activity and volcanic eruptions now. Took the decades but they can finally offer some notice prior to an occurrence.

Not that anyone probably cares, But earthquakes still suck.
We had another ripper today. Two actually. (5.5 and a 6.0) I gotta say it was quite a scary experience. No fatalities this time though. (Thank goodness)
