the first pif is early sr20 not sr16

the second pic is the 1994-1998 rps13 (180sx) black top motor, black top motors that come outta 180sx's are pretty much the same has red top .
s14 and s14 have the sr20det with vct

Looks good: CA
Looks ugly: SR

that's an SR, the red paint can't hide the fact... might even be an SR16.

No worries, lol yeh i realized you couldn't see the block, just saying it's another way to tell. So are they listing it as a ca18?

No, the only detail is 1992 Nissan 180sx. Not overly helpful.

That's a sr20, a ca has 2 separate squarer type rocker covers, top feed injectors and they all have a square type plenum that sits up high (but late model sr20's have a similar one. Ca has the crank angle sensor bolted to the front passenger side of the head. They are the easiest things to spot besides the ca18 on the block lol

Thanks for that - it's an auction with very sparse info, so all I had was a photo unless I wanted to drive 250km to find out. I reckon the 2 separate rocker covers should be easy to identify.

Very hard to read the block from the photo

How can you identify a CA18DET from a photo?

Are there any features that tell you easily that it's not a SR20 etc?

The problem is, I have a picture and no further info what is the best way to know it's a ca18det.
