Its perfect and if you decide to go w/ x 1.7 multiplication for boost to stay under 2ltr, a cr10de crank and 2mm overbore is all thats needed. Its the last of modern ally donks w/ right side inlet & left side exhaust, unlike the HR series and all others.

No Chris, I believe another bloke drives it. Although I'm not entirely sure. Not that it's any of my buisness anyway, I'm just reporting on a gearbox I thought was pretty cool.
D, here are the specs I pulled from Nissan for the CR14DE.
Engine Code CR14DE Type 4-cyl. In-line, DOHC. Water-cooled Bore x stroke (mm) 73.0 x 82.8 Displacement (cc) 1,386 Max. power (EEC) kW (hp)/rpm 72(97)/5,600 Max. torque (EEC) Nm (kg-m)/rpm 137(14.0)/3,200 Compression ratio 9.8 Fuel system ECCS, electronic fuel injection control
Not too shabby.

When the time comes to do my thou driveline I'll worry about the displacement for whatever class I run in. I don't think I'll worry just yet about turbo's as the project in question has yet to be put on a 'budget' path and I can hardly do that when thinking about resleeving a block to achive under 2L. But a NA CR14 that puts out close to 70KW at the treads is fairly good, with room for improvement in tuning is a real good start. I think a quad throttle crossflow all alloy 1.4 would be a hoot. If it fits though. $250 for the motor with a bottom end knock is a budget start anyway. It is already set up with a crank and cam sensor for sequential injection. I'll be getting onto the motor tomorrow.

Its a small world after all in the Datsun circles.
Don the cr10de crank is 63mm stroke the CR14 block is 73mm bore so would need to be sleeved to 77mm for 1173cc in U2ltr config calc.
The e15 with e10 crank will be 1216cc so would need to be sleeved bore decreased to 75mm for 1186cc x 1.7 = 2012cc boosted.

So, I have just aquired a couple of 56a 4 speeds, hopefully I will be able to rebuild one decent gearbox from the 2 as one has a mangled reverse, although I have a third from Lagwagon that may make it possible to produce 2.
But there was an interesting twist in the aquisition of the said 4 bangers. As I met the young fellow who was nice enough to meet me at a werckers in Dandenong, I told him the destiny of the gearboxs and told him where I work, For those who don't know I work for Holinger Engineering. He says that I may have recently rebuilt his mums gearbox. At this point I thought 'Nah mate, I don't think so...' but then mentions it was from a DR30 Skyline! So I asked if it was from the #30 George Fury monster? He replies Yeah. Thats the one. Needless to say I choked on my thoughts and squeeked a little as you all know how excited I get and I told him that the gearbox is the subject of this thread.
It just goes to show what a small world it really is. So now the same family has basically supplied another gearbox for another build thread.
Stay tuned as in the next few weeks I'll start another thread, but this time, as it will be in my own time it will take a bit longer so I will do it in smaller installments.

The trouble is that the counter gear is one piece -- it has 1st, 2nd and 3rd on it. Top doesn't use a gear, it is direct drive.
Instead you could use a 63A 5-speed, which has the same 1st gear, +3 more + overdrive
Or an A14 4-speed, with a slightly higher diff. It's closer ratios than the 1200's 3-speed or 4-speed gearsets.

Ummm 4 speed rebuild coming up? sounds like datsun 1200 is getting some serious wiki info.
In regards to the future Don is there any chance the 3 speed manual gears could be used for a 4 speed? The first 3 gears are more usable with a torquer A series than the 4 speed ones. Then the problem is the fourth gear would need to be made for overdrive .75 or something. :( $$$$
3-speed R3W56L 4-speed F4W56L 1st - 3.380 1st - 3.757 2nd - 1.734 2nd - 2.169 3rd - 1.000 3rd - 1.404 Rev - 3.640 4th - 1.000 , Rev - 3.640
Ideally expensive custom 1st and 4th gears. eg. 2.8, 1.734, 1.000, 0.75
All $$$ points to 71 series

I wouldn't go as far as saying that I'm the man there Mik, it just so happens though that I have access to some of the best mechanical minds in the gearbox business and I plan to take full advantage of that fact and hopefully pass my lucky findings on to those who need it. But at least one more build thread is on the cards.

you would be the one don to mate a gearbox properly to an e15 to get it all ok, no the missing 3 bolt method some have done.
why stuff around with a series when e15et is available.like you said, your race car is to a budget.
i like your gearbox and the diff building thread would be nice. some of it goes over my head as you know but i feel myself and others can learn from it. even if we never have the skills to do it.
our site lacks a lot of this technical stuff, and practical stuff in details, so keep it coming.
