The shaft is not in the car yet, iv just been playing around with it on the bench. Iv tried to put a ring spanner over the tight threaded shaft for extra leverage and it still won't move. I will try put up some pics or I can SMS it to a Aussie member if they can post them up

Also, you often can't tell when it is installed. Separate the joint then see if it will move.

post a picture of the shaft. The linkage I bought new is all pretty tight tolerances, it move but stiffly & all the new ball joints & misc steering components I've installed over the years are all like this when new. When David says you can move it with your finger he's correct but it should take some fair amount of effort & not just slip around easily. Of course David might have superman fingers & its a piece of cake for him.

Sometimes there actually very stiff at first, try greasing the joint, put a nut on it, lock it in a vise & put a pipe over the shaft & start wiggling, it should loosen.

Thank you ddgonzal that's right one joint won't move at all, the other feels like any other new joint. Under the boot the shafts look different right at the bottom. It does not seem right to me?

Are you saying that one of the ball joints does not move? That would be a problem -- and sometimes does happen that that a joint seizes up.

They should smoothly (not loosely). If you have them separately from teh mating part, you should be able to move them with your fingers, with not too much effort.

This is hard to explain. The new shaft is exactly the same shape as the shop manual. The tapered shafts which go through the pitman arm and idler arm seem to work differently. One is fixed and won't move even with a ring spanner over it and the other end does move exactly like all the tie rod ends and ball joints which are all new. Has any one looked closely at this before. I'm thinking if not ment to move then why have a grease nipple??? Sorry if u feel that I'm wasting your time and space on here. I know it will fit but will it WORK!

some have grease fittings, some do not. All work the same.

Well the thing that I find funny is that the two threaded tapered shafts look different where they come out of the main shaft. Both have grease nipples?
