I bought an L series thermostat for $16- delivered just to see how it lines up with the a series gasket, and it does. Possible 1mm difference in the bolt spacing but plenty of meat to make it fit.

Point being the Dayco catalog showed that most of the Jap manufacturers commonly used the same thermostat gasket as the L series engine. Therefore this little nugget opens up many, many thermostat housing options for custom radiators, even possible to pick one with the matching pipe diameter! DTG15 is the Dayco gasket number. Attached is the catalog (sorry too big) and when I can be bothered/ have time I'll upload the pics of how the gasket lines up. (What's the best way to shrink them?)

I went for the charade one because it meant no cutting of the front apron, wasn't keen to do that. It lines right up with the existing hole.

Does the L series thermostat housing have larger bolt spacing? Might have to make a trip to the wreckers.

"L" series does not fit, the go for larger radiators is to get an aluminium 3 core GEMINI radiator, larger and inlet and outlets on radiator are in the same position as "A" series radiators and fits a treat.
I purchased one on ebay recently for under $200 with free postage, Quality of unit is 100%, great workmanship.
This is the one I purchased on ebay, search, I believe you can search and they still have them for sale.

Anyone know if the L series housing fits? Looks the right layout.

THanks DD, already did a search on the A-series housings. I'm thinking something from another make might be better for my application.

I'll have a look at the toyota ones.

all a-series housing are the same bolt pattern, same diameter.

Datsun 1200 points at 9:00
A14 usually points at 10:30

See Thermostat, section Housing for photos and more information on variations.

Some junior speedway B310s run a radiator at the rear of the car.
I think they use a toyota themostat housing which is compatible with datto heads

Hello,

I'm at it I'm putting in a new aluminium radiator (CB Charade from memory) so I need to move the pipes aroun a bit. The top inlet is in the middle so it would be good to have the pipe on the head point forward or up. I'm finding it a bit hard though to find out the sizes of other thermostat housings. I measure about 68-69mm pitch between the two bolts on the gasket, 50mm ID and 67 OD. WHich is great, but I don't have a draw full of gaskets for other cars.

I've got an electric pump and controller to go on at the same time so the thermostat its self will go. I might just make a flange if I can't some up with anything better or find an autoparts shop that will be keen to pick through their gaskets. Also trying to find a cross reference catalog for suitable gaskets as a guide.

Keen to hear if anyone has a solution to save me a little time.

Thanks
