had an engineer round today, said main change is requiring a collapsible steering column, which the 1200s have, or some do (is it all or just coupes and late utes?), so its easy to convert anyway

engineer wasn't as scary as i thought it might be lol

Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm a bit lost atm. I've read through vsb14 changes and can't find many changes that would affect people here. As far engine swaps, not A series eg. ca18 into 1200, I can't see much difference between vsb14 and the stuff I was reading 12 months ago. If anything it's a bit easier to read through. Weight to cc ratio's, same. Fuel Systems and clearances, same. There seems to be a bit more emphasis on emissions but we all knew that was coming.

It seems to me that it is more the process you go through that changing big time rather than the ADR's. I think it will get harder but not impossible. I think if you get knocked back you need to go back to that engineer to get it passed, like a pink slip.

Oh engine cc restrictions are enforced later diwn the page, where it gies into the weight to cc ratios

And you will then find vicroads state based laws then add that can not change to a different engine that was not offered as an option in that car will need to be engineered and also and modifications that increase power or torque more than 15% need to be engineered too.

So as stated there are federal ones and then additional state based ones.

20% power increase allowed instead of 15% larger engine upgrade sounds good nothing bad there which means a10 to a12/a14 and a15 now requires no engineer.



"Fitting engines greater than 120% of original power and/or engine mass;"

Engine size restrictions don't seem to be enforced.

well some of the proposed changes go further than that, but until its published on RTA or vicroads sites (probably 1st july) its up to the engineers to advise.

but yes they will be getting tougher nation wide appaently and the draft docoument is being replaced with an actual bonafide document.
The trail eneded, results drawn up and now real rules coming into enforceable existence.

Reading other forums, yes they will be tough, others no its another scare campaign. but the 4wd association is making a big song and dance over not being able to get body, suspension and tyre lifts passed that exceed a certian height in total.

heres the whole list under vsb 14 thats what the engineers have to follow, plus whatever state based ones on top of that!

From what I've read sounds like a bit of a storm in a D cup. In the end it's up to the engineer you use, no two have the same interpretation. If an engineer signs off on your car and something doesn't meet RTA standards it's on their head, not yours. I think where the system falls down is the blokes that get their car engineered then make blatantly stupid changes like BOVs and pod filters after the fact. It's always the one or two dickheads that ruin it for everyone else.

To me that PDF is just outlining some proposed name changes and pointing out rules that have been in existence for some time, a little gee up to show the general public that the Govt is doing something. Like has already been said, the Govt doesn't want to kill off engineers or the after market part industry.

in NSW you can have mods provided they are period correct and in keeping with the model line up and era. or at least that's what I'm led to believe... so a GX spec Datsun (or replica) would be fine or other period mods..

In the FE FC Holden club if you can provide documented evidence of period mods and accessories then you can put them on if the registrar and club accepts it.

I am still trying to convince them that in the 1950s and 60s; guys were customising, so that should qualify as a period mod... ie frenched lights and chopped roofs etc.

so far.. no.. it doesnt retain authenticity.
