Is this vehicle comming from interstate?

For what it's worth, when I was looking into
interstate compliance, bringing my vehicle from NSW to QLD, I spoke to a guy named Peter Austin at vehicle modifications and he was very very helpful.

I had the previous owner fax me the NSW papers on the car and Peter looked over them for me and gave me over the phone approval (unofficially of course).

When I purchaced the car Peter then allowed me to fax the Modification Application straight to him and he fast tracked it.

I didn't know this guy from a bar of soap - that is how helpful he was.

I've lost his direct ph. no. but his email is -
peter.j.austin@transport.qld.gov.au- I would suggest any of the queenslanders out there talk to this bloke.

If not and you're just after a RWC - I used a guy named Glenn McEwan - i'm sorry i can't find his ph. no. but the business is one stop exhaust and service at raceview. basically if it is your car and just want to register it things shouild be ok. but if you were after one to sell on he would take a closer look.

as far as insurance goes i'd find out what the engine really is and tell just car. it shouldn't make a diff to your premium. but might void a claim - so just let them know.

How likely is it that is really is a A12, with the seller saying "hey it's really an A14, worth a bit more, eh?".

Chances of a datsun engine being stripped to measure cubic displacement woul be 1 in a million.
You'd have other issues to worry about before the power of an a14 brought you onto trouble with s company that insures 1000hp skylines and such openly.

Also insurance is usually based on duty of disclosure. You state when your doing the quote as well as by the policy that all the modifications on your car are legal and rwc. Reason why everyone's not wanting to touch it is because it may not be lgal and rwc as you have advised them.

In some cases it's actually condoned by road transport to stamp your old number onto a replacement engine that bares no such number. It has happened with older cars that have had replacement engines, if it's missing then it may be allowed to restamp it If approved by road transport auth. They do it with vic/chasis numbers some times too.

Lol you do worry 2 much!!

Just cos the guy you bought it off thinks the guy before him might have stamped an A14 with an A12 engine number doesn't mean you have to get this engineered.

As far as you can tell, and that anyone can prove without pulling it down, including youself, the engine is an A12.

Best not to worry.

I would think that if you tell them you have an engine with funny numbers they would have to take the engine off you as it could potentially be stolen or some crap like that.

You are gonna rock up to the engineer an he'll be like u want me to engineer the original engine in the car??? Sure man give me $88 and off you go!!!

They do need and engineer Cert on any engine swap that wasnt a standard engine in Aus as i'd thought. They put me on to some people who do mod plates at $88 per item so it looks like that'll have to be it.

So just go with it? The guy im buying it of said that the older bloke he bought it of swapped in an a14 and just stamped the original engine numbers on it. What im thinking is that if i have a crash and Just Cars are suspect that the engine is actually an A14 instead of an A12 as i've told them, they will probably pay more attention to the engine and strip it down, if they do that they'll see that its an a14 and i'm liable for Everything....

thedevilshands, That sounds great im going to call QDOT and see if they need a engineer Cert for an a14. Fingers crossed

Heh heh wait till you get the car then worry about that stuff.

When I went into ACT motor registry with an A14 in my 120Y in they didn't even blink. Just wrote the new numbers on the papers.

In most states an A14 is considered a replacement for an A12 so I dunno why they re stamped the A12 block (2 options spring to mind: 1 - Ex race engine/cheating and 2 - Are you are buying an A14 powered 1200 at all).

All you can do is go with the best available information. If the block you pay for says A12 then you "must" consider that you are paying for an A12 and so will insurance peeps.

It doesn't matter if you "think it might" be an A14 when you get a quote or whatever. Just go off the numbers and you will be fine.

edit - beat me to it DD!!

If it has an A12 in it now, why do you have to get it registered?

Maybe you worry too much. It says A12 right on the engine. That's the factory engine type.
