unfortunatly in Australia the cyclinders are all owned by the gas companies and they wont fill an un-certified cyclinder. They will not certify privatly owned cyclinders, so they have you by the nuts.

You MUST hire a cyclinder from them if you want gas.
Yes its a con, but thats they way it is.

The big difference between the BBQ gas cyclinders that we can own here and the MIG gas cyclinders is that they are used in industrial enviroments where the OHS legislation is very different.

Can't buy the bottles cheaply here, they won't fill your bottle any way. Sone safety thing

cant you just buy a gas bottle & avoid the rental fee's? Thats what I did, I've got a pony bottle (50cf?? I think)like a small scuba tank size & every once in a while I have to go & swap it for a full tank. In the long run its probably much cheaper then renting a tank.

Even a big piece of plywood or cardboard blocking the wind from your weld area will do the trick.

its amazing boc and stargas have different prices depending where your based. stargas deliver to your door though lol.

think i might boc it- they seem a bit more professional dealing with them.

Have to agree with demacoz,my gas account is with BOC but i changed from a yearly account to a monthly account for two reasons,1 easy to budget monthly and 2 i can return bottle when empty/not in use and not get screwed.The monthly fee is $14.04 being E size
I have found it more benificial doing this also as time tends to get away and you can have bottles sitting around that get forgotten about when not much is going on in the build department.
As for gasless welding,i'm yet to see one i would pass as a motor sport scrutineer....but i live in hope

I have an account at SupaGas (for my home Gas LPG Bottle). I pay an account monthly, it's about $17 per month for a E size (4300m3) and $79 to fill. I went thru the 1500m3 'D' size too quickly.

The trick is that I only pay for the months that actually have the cylinder
