i used high energy electronic ignition. tried 1.3mm, but the motor will misfire badly, so i back down to 1.2 mm, no misfire at all. the coil is warm.

From the 1973 Factory Service Manual:

Quote:
point gap (new points): 0.018-0.021 in (0.45 - 0.55 mm)
dwell (new or used points): 49-55 degrees
Spark plug gap: 0.31-0.35 in (0.8 - 0.9 mm)

Spark plug gap of 1.2 mm will slightly misfire unless you have a high-energy Electronic Ignition.

my spark plug gap set at 0.35 thousand of an inch and i can say it has the smoothest idle and balance power

Yes, I find the same. It is noticeably smoother at 0.035 inch (0.9mm) than at 0.031 inch (0.8 mm).

Yeah when the points are at the most open point on the corner of the rotor.

you can set the dwell by using feeler gauge, 0.45~0.55mm, or you can use dwell meter which is more accurate to set the points.
