The gearbox is awesome thanks Don :)

I'm probably leaning towards a stock setup, maybe with extractors.

Phil, a decent stock A12 would be awesome compared to the one in yours now. It was pretty gutless when I drove it.

A stock A15 is a massive improvement for a 120Y. Reliable too. But a decent mild A14 is a very good option. There are 2 A15's for sale in WA. Shouldn't cost too much to get them over and start work.

How did the 5 speed go? I haven't heard back since you picked it up so I wasn't sure if you were pleased or angry.

Good point.

A Weber 32/36 is a reliable carburetor, if the adapter is put on correctly -- with lock washers or loc-tite.

A rebuilt A15 will already have a cam. Unless you want to rev it over 5,000 RPM, the stock A15 cam is very good.

This weekend I drove 1000km and the only problem was with the extractors. I am thinking of putting the GX manifold on it as they seal better.

But even with a cam and carb, it won't be awesome. With dual sidedrafts, ported head, a high-performance camshaft, and loud exhaust now it's getting awesome. Depends on what you want... what's wrong with stock? It is a big jump up in performance moving from stock A12 to stock A15.

Stock a14 or a15 is ok but whays wrong with a cam and carb? If it's a rebuilt motor what's wrong with a cam, stock or new? Having had a stock a15 and a camed one, the cam was better for fun but stock was beget for traffic duty but wasn't awe inspiring

I think you'll find a totally stock A14 or A15 fun to drive, and much more reliable than one with aftermarket parts. i would use the stock exhaust.

A15 should be enough poke with a 32/36 and mild cam for the street and the occasional bit if fun.

A 2 inch exhaust will be fine and I'm not sure why there would be an issue with extractors if your making a new exhaust, it's the 20mm taller block height that's the only difference probably

Ok so my coupe is pretty gutless with the stock a12.
Ultimately I want to replace the tired a12 with a fresh a14 or a15.

The car is a street car and rarely driven over 5000rpm.
I'm looking for great drivability and reliability, with a bit better performance.

Should I go with the stock cam and carby, or maybe mild cam and twin hitachis?
Stock exhaust or extractors with 1.75" pipe?
Would a14 or a15 be better.? I seem to remember some issue about a15 blocks and clearance with extractors.

I'm currently running a pertronix ignition and pretty happy with that.
I'll be using a 60 series 5 speed.
