Re: Fan/rad query again

Well taking rad out once stops raining and workspace dries out.

Found 3 core alloy rad but think might be bit small fir l16 , core is 350mm x 350mm x56mm thick. Size wise it's pretty close to the stock a series but not sure if will be enough for lseries... Will see verdict from rad shop for s13 rad first. Was reading up and they are considered a piss ant thin core for even ca18,s
eBay link for rad
Otherwise rx rad like demacoz looks ok, but it's $$$ down drain if alloys are rubbish. Could get brass/copper original one and pressure test that. If cools a rotor sure to Cool an l series

Will try first, need to trim the panel more, it's only in stop start city I worry which is under 60kmh as mentioned.

While it's out will talk to rad places. Might be worth trying to find copper core and tank rad to replace. Twin core could be better if find at right price.

Like don says, try the easy things first ;)

daviescraig pdf

pdf

looks like at the same pressure 10inch is 270 where 12 inch is about 350, so for pure flow two tens could be better

still say your pissing in the wind without having your rad rodded, even if its $200 better than the $2000 and prob 40hrs i just spent rebuilding claires head and bottom end cause it cooked itself

flushing it with the hose is pointless

FROM DAVIESCRAIG WEBSITE:

Question No. 4
Is there any advantage to having two slightly smaller fans as opposed to the one larger fan?
One of the very important factors with engine cooling fan/s is the volume of air any specific Thermatic Fan can pull or push through a radiator. In general terms 2 x 14" fans will match the volume flow of 1 x 16” fan but not 2 x 12" fans. There are other factors including core thickness and clearly the thicker the radiator core a more powerful fan is required. Therefore a single 16” fan will out-perform 2 x 12” fans in almost all situations. E.G. If your radiator is 4 core or greater then 2 x 12" fans wouldn't be recommended. Therefore 1 x 16" fan could be sufficient.
Remembering that any Thermatic Fan will cease to be effective once the vehicle speed has reached 50-60 KPH after which the ram air takes over. We also recommend Thermatic fans be fitted to the downstream (engine side) of the radiator

Are they seriously that bad??? Wonder why every one raves bout them then??? Might just put a cooling system cleaner through and remove rad to back flush it. Can trim rad cowling more at same time if weather holds out.

Then retest. Still debating if 1 12inch or 2 10inch fans....

im reluctant to give it to you, cause i think they are absolute crap. And i cant believe how heavy they are... a good few kilos heavier than plastic tank alloy core
