Moving to my build thread now- made new alt top bracket from 6mm steel plate and welded and plated broken mount. Neither are the pretiest by work and fit nice.

So will paint them then install. All seems ok now except after market temp gauge. Willard if I can do that tonight or tomorrow.

Might make hh if I sort that and fire extinguisher mounting.

Retrorallys old mig worked charm on the thicker stuff- glad I forked out for gas not gassless mig.
Cranked it up and made some nice welds and some crap ones- getting better.

Now this might ne simple gir some but for a tool like me that didn't really mod a car til 21 and 24 actually fixing stuff, cutting disks, miging and sorting out problems is a big deal. Learning elecs us good too now, and with help of members here, info is being learnt and retained.

Now to get thus sht sorted!

Thought all fixed til after market temp guage sweeps on and off and it's light turns on and off... Need to trace the circuit. What a pita!

Oh and headlight cuircit looks bypassed from fuse box, must be just through relays and fuses in the bay.

Well checked under dash, resanded contact point for earth in boot to body.

Pulled out fuse box- I hate there's no give in the wires almost. Back was fine. Made sure all connectors on. All under dash connectors ok. Was bed time 330am. All lights etc work horn and car started. Just need to remake or weld broken alt top mount as a temp fix till I remake one.

Hopefully by sanding bottom earth chasis point, it wont melt the plastic sheathing as it earths again now properly. If it does I guess problem is else where.

About to check under dash but all under bonnet stuff done. Removed some old wires to nowhere who knows what they were for one looked live for old anti dieseling solenoid. Other 2 who knows. They were live too to the pos coil.

Cleaned earths and ready yo cut and fix top alt bracket tomorrow. Lights and starts stil. Also cleaned bat posts and terminals. Nothing like 180 grit sand paper and time
Replaced bottom engine earth as chasis end had melted plastic over the connecting bolt to chasis- sanded to clean earth and rebooted down other earth cable I had - black with yellow trace.

I read and re read wiring diagrams for 1200 and 160-180b manuals I had to get hold on l series elecs. Wish I knew elecs more to make a simplified loom.

Let's see what fuse box and tomorrow brings. Fingers crossed- ps it's almost 1 am lol and I want to finish to have a beer

try removing the battery ground off the oil pump bolt, clean that contact - re-tighten, the main ground contact from the wiring harness I think is at the horn mount bolt going into the frame rail up front on the right hand side, pull that & clean really well re-install then make sure batt posts & connectors are all nice & shiny, tighten up.

try that first & see if car starts/runs - if not then go to the fuse box. The box itself isn't grounded to the frame but has a main ground lead - thats the part about pulling the box & cleaning all the terminal connections.

If its a ground or connection problem all the above will likely solve it, especially if all your wiggling got it to run again.

Well no tome today- not feeling greatest.

Must be a ground or fuseable link. Went to car lifted broken alt arm off, jiggled fuseable link, pos bat post, got 2 engine earths one to bat and one to rail, checked both, turned on headlights bam! They all work and car starts! Wtf! Horn tooted the works. All I did inside was touch the fuse box cover didn't do anything else.

I don't reckon I will sort this in time for 10th.. Crap
