Alas I don't have a 5speed in this car. The way the gearbox sounds, it wont be long till I don't have a 4spd either.

yuk yuk
Yes, the heated manifold is part of the reason why performance of fuel economy is so good 1. Heated manifold helps atomize the air/fuel mixture, to burn it more fully 2. Heated air cleaner is temp-regulated, so air/fuel mixture is stable. Thus carburetor can be jetted leaner and still work well 3. The 5-speed overdrive makes it about 20% more fuel-efficient at 100 km/h than the 4-speed

I'm still puting about in the sunny, And I STILL can't get over how little fuel it uses. It's rediculas. I was however thinking. When I peiced the bits onto the block after replacing all the gasketss, and flicking on a coat of paint. The only exhaust manifold I had, had collapsed and leaking bushes on the flapper valve. As such I removed the flapper door, Tapped out the slogged out bushes. Then drilled and tapped the iron manifold, and plugged the holes with bolts. So the long and the short of it is, the underside of the plenium always has maximum heating. I know that for performance, this is a big no-no. It's quite common to plug the exhaust crossover on small block mopar V8's. And aftermarket performance manifolds don't even come with those ports in them. But is it conceivable that the extra heating might be improving my milage? (Albeit at the expense of some performance) Or maybe it has more to do with me driving slow given how cut up the roads are here atm. Or that I'm accelerating more gently as the gearbox sounds like it's about to explode. But I can drive accross town and back again, the the needle doesn't even seem to move. A far cry from my nissan stagea.

What were the high swirl heads fitted to?
I lightened my flywheel a bit on the sunny. For no reason other than it was free. Didn't get too carried away. Just enough to give it a bit of extra acceleration. PLus the timing chain is quite worn. So it loves to rev out. It'll pull all the way to valvebounce.

Imagine that A12 with higher comp thanks to lighter and flat top pistons, electronic ignition, lighter clutch/fly setup and all rebalanced perfectly but in a 650kg datsun 1000 with 3.9. It sips hardly anything even while mostly flogging it severly.
Will try and scan a pic of mitsu lancer pistons I took a while back compared to A15 for comparo. I later had them milled -1.5mm to make them flat tops.
If only I could get a high swirl head locally! :)
