Nah dellortos have bearings on the throttle shaft/spindle just as the webers do. The mikuni's don't (although some are bushed) and of all the Mikuni's I've come across they've had fewer hesitations in the return and no ceased throttle shafts. The webers and dellortos are sometimes more prone to this as the bearings cease up (the dust covers degrade or water somehow makes its way in there).

This dude needs to read up on carbs first he's just wanting an answer right away without even thinking about it. Whether they are 45's or 40's doesn't really mean shyte at these capacities provided they share the same choke size, sure there will be a difference but it will be a very minor sacrifice of low rpms and a very minor gain in the high rpms. I mean minor....negligible.

If you're wanting a straight off answer then do; eeny meeny miny moe and pick whichever one your digit lands on. There really is little difference but instead it is a preference.

I recall someone telling me a very long time ago, that the only difference between webers and dellortos is that webers have roller bearings for the butterfly rod (Chris, can you verify??)

I agree with most here, don't be seduced by "bigger is better"... I once had a TA22 Celica with a massaged 2T-G, with twin 40mm Mikuni Solexes and that pulled strongly to 8K.

But at the end of the day, whether you go Weber, Dellorto or Mikuni Solex, the sound they make will definitely make all the frigging around to set them up definitely worth your while!

I believe in doing things right the first time and i did the mistake of buying someones half finished project so trying to get it up to scratch n find a roller n build up another from there PROPERLY! lol

i want it to be very knarly! lol so defo on the webbers, so the dellortos would be a better choice? i have hopefully picked up a set of 45s for $350 but just going to have to wait n see if they r webers or dellortos.
The only down side is there is no manifold to suit.
any suggestions there guys? and linkages.

i prefer the SU for drivability but in your case if you want "nasty" the twin sidedraughts will give better top end and a throaty sound too

twin webers and dellortos are essentially the same, my main advice would be to try to buy a set off a similar engine and more particularly with the size chokes you think you will want as they are by far the most expensive part to change. 40s should be fine, 45s are likely to have too big chokes in them as they are typically used for bigger motors. if you can buy aset on manifold with linkages to suit the oval port head it will save you a lot of mucking around setting them up

They are just as hard as each other to tune. To make tuning easier and more consistent you need to invest in quality linkages.

The dellorto and Mikuni equivalents feature an external adjustment to adjust the accelerator pump delivery volume. I found these features useful.

With the Weber it is a fixed component and does require the removal and refitting of another size pump rod to adjust the accelerator pump delivery volume. Not a difficult thing to do but it isn't the quickest either.

Your budget will dictate what you'll end up with.

All I can say is if you buy a used set don't expect to not spend money on them. Many people have bought a set only to spend more money on the getting them rebuilt.
