Snow's almost all gone today (thursday), just a little left in the shady areas.

Haven't seen much snow since I moved to Florida. Back in Colorado it was better. I miss driving on the snow. Black ice is bad but the guy with the Subaru has no excuses IMO. I have one with over 200,000 mi on it and it has seen 50K of that in the snow. It's sort of like driving a video game, every one else is going slowly up the mountain pass and you can (although I didn't) weave through them at will. You do have to have respect for the downhill side as stopping is only as good as your tires will allow.
Raced in the snow once, too. The picture of the race car is at Woody Creek Raceway in Aspen, CO. It snowed pretty good up there one day while we were racing.

Ahh if only....

American variants are never tuned on winter tyres it seems, but in Europe it is illegal not to fit winter tyres after about Oct if the temp has dropped below 0 for a few days.

Doesn't bother us in Oz, you'd be lucky to see snow and ice at a ski field, let alone any public road. (NZ a different story though) - but it barely gets cold enough there.

I have drifted till I think the diff was glowing though.....

And then you came to your senses and drifted that lump til the oil pressure dropped and it threw a rod.... Could be a falcon or commo either way it died

In Dec I was driving around in a big V8 RWD in the snow and ice on summer street tyres. -10C = no grip at all.

If you ever stopped on any incline at all, even 0.5% slope that car would not move again...it's funny how most Americans don't fit winter tyres when the temp drops below 0, they really make an amazing amount of difference to grip.

The tyres had more grip on ice at -5C than they did in snow at -10C

WELL...................I;ve raced my 1200 in hail and snow, we had a freaky winter back around 94 and on pre-grid hail started failing and in morning practice there was actual snow falling.............didn't stick to the track though.

It's nearly all melted now.

AND this is why I live in the Desert...................black ice here is one your cooler bounces out of the back of your 4wd truck as you pound over piles of volcanic rock.
