It's the "contrary to signage" part - it just means that you didn't follow any or all rules on the sign, which as you said you may have been there longer than specified. Sorry but you would have to pay given their response.

So, i got a parking fine a while back for parking in a loading zone.. i own a VW Caddy panel van. The original fine that was on my car said "parking in a restricted parking area, contrary to signage"
To me this mean, 'you are being fined because you shouldn't be here'?!?!?
So i wrote the SDRO a letter explaining that and they wrote back saying that the fine was for exceeding the time limit of the loading zone (im not disputing that as i cant bee sure how long i was there)
My point is shouldn't the fine say that i exceeded the time limit instead of saying i parked in a restricted area???
P.S. im in NSW if it makes a dif...
