hahaha, i wouldve loved to see the copper reaction when he doesnt know what he's looking at, the police around my area are pretty much the same. and we have the same problem with too many commy drivers ruining it for everyone else, personally i would rule out commy's as a p plate car because they are far too powerful for new drivers to control. and i dont claim to be the best but i do think that i am a very responsible driver and i'm not about the go fast and hooning but more the car itself and the smile it brings to people's faces.

I'm on my p plates ,and sadly ill be losing my license because in wa we arent allowed to drive after mid night

I lost 2 points when I was on my way home

The second time I was pulled up by the same cop ,and i was sitting on 55ish kms ,then the road i was on went from 60 to a 70 zone ,I sped up to roughly 67 kms ,the cop was conibg towards me and its a fairly well known area for cops to sit and pick up car seeing as I drive past every day

When he stopped me ,he took another 2 points off me for suposedly doing nearly 60 in the 60 zone ,I didn't bother arguing I just took the fine and waited for them to leave

The cops in my area are realy bad with p players cos there is so many idiots in commys and silvias

I havnt been done for hooning ,and I havnt been in a crash (touch wood)

I'm a good driver ,but im not perfect ,I know my car and what it will do because i have practiced on a closed road ,nothing silly just taking a corner at abit of speed and playing around in the wet and learning how it steers ,brakes and slides

I know ill get abused about it but I would rather learn on a huge open corner on a closed road that in traffic where there is other cars and people

I'm getting. my panel and paint done ob the ute while I'm off the road ,then ill be getting some new wheels to make it handle and look cool

As for being modified ,I've been pulled up ,and was asked to pop the bonnet ,so I did and the policeman didn't quiet know what to look at or what to say

I'm also running a fairly worked a15 with twin carbs ,comp ,cam ,MSD and extractors aswell as heaps of other stuff ,about 8 grand worth of engine and gearbox

Didn't have a problem over the pits either.

I couldnt agree more. There is absolutely no point in bag them up at light, it only draws attention to yourself, especially if you're in a Datsun.

Im glad you understand where im coming from, im not tryign to be ignorant or blind as to what happens with p platers just trying to keep a positive spin on it all.

And your opinion counts. I don't think first cars should be wrapped around trees, but they need to be safe yet basic so people font rely on all the aids.

Keeping it to Motorsport, private roads or maybe the occasional country run seems logical and safer than the traffic light gp.
See you've listened to some wise words and already a step ahead of most younger drivers.
I don't brandish all p platers as bad drivers, I've seen good ones, but it's the attitude of invincibility combined with stupidity that degrades confidence my opinion of them on the road. Especially burnouts and drifting through busy suburban roads

As I said don't get me wrong I'm not trying to tell anyone I'm a great driver I'm not perfect. All I'm Saying is that maybe before shutting us down with a go wrap a #OOPS# car around a tree for your first time then drive a good car. Isn't that just promoting bad driving?

I'm still on my l's and completed my hours within the first 3-4 months or something, doesn't mean I know how to drive at all, i just love it lol. I agree completely that with age comes wisdom and with practice makes "perfect" so to speak, experience is key, so on....

As for the tests being to easy I could agree more, I'm yet to complete the p platers test but I know for sure that the learners test is much to easy especially when kids can just learn what the answers are through the online test and complete the real thing, there's seriously bugger all difference. Personally I think the hours should be increased by a lot. All comes back to parents though, hours need to be completed and if the just write them off in their books how will anyone every know?

I think gaining confidence and knowing your car is a great way to go too, I learnt to drive me old mans coupe at age 8 sitting on 2 pillows with 2 stuffed behind my back haha. That was after sitting on his lap and steering for years before hand. I lost the pillows and was driving more and more ( this is all on private property with about 2 kms on sealed gravel/dirt road.) soon I learnt to do full handbrake turns scandinavian flicks etc. I'm still not peregrine at it and takes me a few goes to get it going right again bit it was awesome having the old man teach me. He's been there all before, used to drive a lot of the sealed forestry roads as his brother was a forestry with keys lol. Long time ago now.

I've been working on a mates 1600 rally car for the past few months and looking at getting my cams license as he's offered me a drive, motorkanas and auto cross days etc. Eventually when we give the old coupe a respray and drop the old a14 fuel injected supercharged motor into im sure we'll do a coupe of track days to gain experience and just a completely differed driving environment.

Anyway this is just my opinion...

Sometimes with age comes wisdom. But usually wisdom is born from adversity and victory over it.

The thing is to allow yourself the time and the controlled circumstances to build both. My advice for any new driver is to seek opportunities to push the limits A LITTLE but in controlled environments. Take a defensive driving course, learn the limits of yourself and your vehicle (use your car). Join a car club and take on a few motokana's, hill climbs and/or track days. Don't go out there to beat everyone, but to improve the technical aspects of braking and cornering. this is not to make you better at the 'green light drags' but to help know what to do when you get yourself over extended.

Driving, like many other things is about experience and reactions, if you can automate the right reactions then you have time to think about the right way to get out of trouble that you will get into.

I guess what i am saying is ... save the dumb things for the track / paddock. That way you'll save your family members the shame of knowing that their loved one was part of the cause for five other deaths one night in Mitcham 30 years ago - and you might survive yourself.

Sorry don't agree, drivings not an automatic tight and you need to earn the privelidge to drive. Not saying your a bad driver but right there is over confidence and not knowing your boundaries.

You really can only get better with experience but unfortunately not every one should be driving, but the tests are easy enough for almost any one to pass now.

I know I'm not the worlds best driver but I know I can always learn and improve. Keeping out of danger should be your number 1 goal driving in the city most days. 10 years time after you loose a mate or 2 on the roads you see things differently

couldnt have said it any better myself, getting your p's is pretty much your freedom and the chance to explore and do things when you want, cruisin with your mates and having a good time, and i might sound like a typical p plater but i drive better then half the idiots on sydney roads

Don't get me wrong I'm NOT perfect in any way shape or form I'm just over people in general reeming us about how s**t of drivers we are.
And the kind of driver you are all comes back to how well you're taught, my opinion anyway. I can't thank my parents enough for teaching me to drive, hell letting me drive at all! When I see some of my mates that there folks won't even entertain the idea of letting them drive!
I love driving and will drive anywhere an everywere when I can!
