Well, after literally weeks and weeks if searching, I have finally admitted defeat and ordered a new set of original strut tops from Japan (as not a single datsun "specialist" in australia was able to help me)

The thing is, due to the rareity of nissan australia being asked for this kid of thing, I have been told to expect a wait of several weeks. So, to save anyone else going through this, is anyone else here interested in getting a set? Drop me a line in the next couple of days and I will get a set aded to my order for you.

And before anyone asks - I want to keep this old school, hence my reluctance to use the S13 camber plates.

Yes, McPherson Stut was first used in 1949, so definitely is not a classic suspension.

See Strut Tops. You can buy new ones from Nissan, or adjustable ones off eBay.

Welcome Stinnkyrooster (?!!)

Congratulations on joining the fold! Don't expect to ever care about anything else ever again with the same passion!

With most things when getting parts, Ebay is you're friend! There are numerous boss kits that will fit. Just search "datsun boss" and they will come up a-plenty.

With your strut tops, you can order a K-Mac adjustable strut top designed for the 1200 or you can get a set of S13 (maybe newer as well??) adjustable strut tops. You will need to drill your strut tower holes bigger though as the bolts are larger diameter.

Something like this will do you-

S13 Adjustable Camber Tops

You will sometimes need to play around with different washers and strut retaining nuts to get them to bolt up correctly (not difficult).

Good luck.

(DD - AM=Aftermarket US=Unserviceable both mechanic terms!)

Sorry
AM - aftermarket (non nissan/datsun)
US - unservicable (or up the sh1t)

And yeah - just the strut tops. Even the suspension place that did the rest of the work couldnt track any down. I really want to get some adjustable ones.

AM = aftermarket
US = unserviceable

Besides that I know very little about 1200's with their modern fancy pogo sticks for suspension and new fangled gadgetry

Welcome to the site and congrats on the new purchase. Put up some pics so we can check out your ride!

1. Boss kit - eBay has lots. Check http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_fr ... _sacat=See-All-Categories

2. Wiring diagram - http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawi ... .php?title=Wiring_Diagram

3. Good to have the disc brakes Someone should be able to help you out with some new strut tops

What are those acronyms you are using? AM? US?

See Steering Wheel in the hub section for part numbers

See Tachometer

Replacements for the strut tops? Or the struts? Or what?

Oh Hai!
Just picked up a "new" 1200 ute (well new to me, probably not so much for the guy I bought it off who owned it for 30 years...) and I have a couple of questions that I dont seem to be able to find answers to using the search function.
So, first up, can anyone point me to a boss kit that they KNOW will fit? I really need to get rid of the bus steering wheel, but I cant find a boss kit that someone can tell me will def fit.
Secondly - the factory tacho is not working. I love the look of it, and dont want to change it for an AM one, but I am having trouble tracking down a wiring diagram so I can check the connections before declaring the unit itself US. The ute had electronic points put in it at some time in the past, so I was hoping a wiring diagram will help me figure out if it is US or just disconnected.
Lastly - I just had all the front suspension rebuilt, and was told it has 120Y struts (and disc brakes) in the front. Now, apparently the original strut tops are knackered, and the body has a touch of positive camber added to one wheel, so if anyone could point me in the direction of some after market adjustable replacement, 1000 internets be upon them.
