Maddat make good stuff. Custom is the only way, since there are no stock item for 120Y.

I'd go with the Stumpy too even though you need to swap front cases (requiring two gearboxes, the stumpy and the the CA). There was some Dude selling a stumpy yesterday in the classifieds.

The CA box is quite long like the other boxes that are not stumpy versions they are also 8kg heavier than the Stumpy 71B.
Ive weighed them all as Im anal about free horsepower through less weight.

Forgot to mention if you get an R31 lsd rear end you can have it shortened by Ballrarat differentials for around 500 clams pretty cheap. All up around 1500 installed once you source it.

I prefer a bare second/Hand 8 1/4inch Winters quickchange with mustang centre and shortened axles from a street model.
Cost will be around 2500 grand with R31 disc brakes and stud pattern to suit.

eg. housing and carrier $900, mustang centre and axles 500 and the rest is Ballarat diff services labour to shorten to my needs, bolt/weld alloy to suit leaf springs and r31 brakes.

Yeah sorry lads, i was jumping between webpages when i wrote some of that stuff, i was looking at a different website and it said something about using a 180SX gearbox. I saw that MADDAT can do a whole rear end for me which is good and ill probbally get it. And ill try and be more clearer in further posts.

All CAs have the same pattern for gboxes
The stumpy is the only one that fits the stock gbox lever position.
The stumpy most use is from the 1980-83 R30 skyline with L24 engine.
The others are longer needing to cut the hole further back.

Diffs with LSD all need big money most looking at 1500 minimum
all setup in your car or buy a 1200 ute diff and fit a topgear lsd.

The answers still stand. If you want the CA engine up front, driving the rear wheels, then get a RWD gearbox. Any 71b box from 80-85 with ca20 bellhousing. I'd recommend a RWD gearbox from a CA (e.g. from a Skyline R31) so you don't have to swap gearbox parts like the bellhousing -- which really means the front half of the gearbox.

if you read the first post i said i wanted to know what gearbox/ diff i needed. idk what your getting at but i hell am not putting my eingine in the back of the car or even making it FWD, i want it RWD, i need to know what gearbox, and what diff i need, i want LSD and diskbreaks.

You can use the EXA gearbox if you wish to convert your 120Y to FWD.

Or if you wish to convert it to rear-engine.

If you want the CA engine up front, driving the rear wheels, then get a RWD gearbox. Gearboxes don't have LSD or disc brakes, so it's irrelevant which RWD gearbox you use.

i also should of mentioned i want LSD with disk's for my diff, and your saying i can use the same gear box in it or have to get one out of a 180sx or something? i also should of mentioned that its out of an Nissan EXA which is a FWD so can i use that gearbox or get another one?

the other thing is most heavy bluebird s2 with L20b enignes had the H165 diff so a 1200 with h150 centre is plenty provided its not abused like burnouts that only brainless twats do.
If staging for 1/4 mile racing, its a different matter then go for a beefier rear end.

120Y rear differential is already good enough for an CA16DE.

RWD gearbox for CA16DE is like D said, use a CA18DE gearbox.
