the legal thing was the issue for me as well as saftey. i was on steel chasers, so i just had the offset changed.

The size of the centre hole doesnt control how the wheel is attached.
I have been in a car with wheel spacers when the studs let go, (the car in question was owned and driven by someone who swore by them) and apart from the fact that I was still picking threads of car seat cover out of my butt 3 days later, the insurance company knocked the claim back as they were deemed an illegal modification that directly contributed to the car getting written off.

so would it be unsafe to run aftermarket wheels that don't locate on the hub using the centre hole, but rather just with the studs?
because that seems to be something that almost everyone does. are spacers really much worse?

we have been down this road with wheel spacers and the center location of the wheel before and still it keeps raising its ugly head , you are free to do anything you want so please dont take this the wrong way but if you want to do over 200kph are you realy concidering using the 4 to 5 stud conversion spacers , iv'e seen them break just from cornering loads on cars with slicks , granted spacers are sometimes unavoidable but avoid the multi stud ones and only up to about 20mm max for the solid ones , botom line if you can't afford the correct wheel/hub/disc combo wait till you can as you will be spending good money after bad if you opt for the quick fix, oh and by the way wheel spacers are not ADR approved an no signatory engineer will sign off on them

195/50 all round on track , 175/55 F & 205/50 R street

Yeah my thoughts were that, I have Bolton on my skyline and that's seen over 200kmh but I don't like them!
So I'll buy spacers till I sort out what I'll end up running 100% then will get a mate to sort some custom d1's or so for me!
What size tyres are ppl running 15+??

you should really only use them if the centre hole of the spacer properly seats onto the wheel hub,
and the centre of the wheel properly seats onto the spacer, so that the hub is carrying the load if that make sense?

you dont wanna travel at 200kph+ and be crashing over ripple strips if your just relying on your wheel studs...

but in saying that, ive done it before with no hassles. but probably wouldnt with a heavier car than a 1200

wheels that fit are a better option, you can never have enough mechanical peace of mind when blasting around the track

I've used bolt on and non bolt on spacers and never had a problem daily used and driven hard daily

I've used bolt-on spacers on the 180SX track car for years, hitting up to 210kph at lakeside. No problems.

I eventually bought a set of wheels that fit without spacers for the semis, but still use the spacers on the road wheels.
