I heard on another forum that there is a guy that goes through asia buying up a series 5 speeds. But I never found out who it is.
The factory overdrive 5 speeds can be a bit weak as the overdrive part sits in a extension housing the the back of the usual 4 speed case and this part doesnt always get oil to it during hard cornering or going downhill. I always thought it would be more cost effective in the end to get a bellhousing from somewhere such as dellow and install a smooth shifting , reliable celica T50 gearbox. even though it's got a toyota logo on it..

Thanks for that Jesse. I dont suppose you would have any photos of yours floating about? I "think" I get wghat you are on about, but want to be sure.

Also, I have no idea who "mal" is. My box is being rebuilt by a mate in Bunbury, not a shop.

Rooster !

I used a Nissan Silvia rubber mount as it bolts on (same mount as rb20/25) then i used a peice of angle iron that's 4mm thick and just sits in the bottom of the rubber mount ,I then drilled 2 holes ,one on each side of the tunnel for bolts To go through and mde 2inx2in plates to.go on the inside of the floor ,then just bolted it up

Passed the.pits no problems

Reason why i.did this was cos the factory nut things that are welded into the floor got ripped out when I did a burnout or 2 ...... or 4 pairs of tyres worth :D

Also mal is top notch always helpful and fair ,if theres something wrong with the box he will tell you :)

does anyone have any drawings or measurements that detail the required mods to the rear cross member to slot a 63 series into a 1200 ute?
My box is being rebuilt 200km away, and I would like to get hold of a second cross member and get it modded to suit, so when the box is ready it can be bolted straight in, as my box rebuilder has a hoist, and theplan is go down there, get the rebuilt box fitted and drive home the same day.

All need some mods to use in a 1200. All A-series 5-speeds take a different rear crossmember than the 1200 4-speed. And the 60-series backup lamps switch is a problem

Other than that, the 60-series or 56-series 5-speeds are a bolt-in job. Same tailshaft even as the 4-speed
