well i know where there's a 2 1200 utes engineered for n/a rotors and fairly tidy bodys and there only 6&7 grand i think that pretty cheap

personally i think the price of white ute on ebay is being inflated big time, as for the price of 1200's in general i think inflation is just catching up. you can't really buy any road worthy car for under 2.5/3k, whats happened is everything has gone up in price except our wages so everything seems dearer only people with money are the people that work in the mines

It's only an investment if totally factory spec original in most cases- aus imported 2nd hand jap won't be worth as much as a Japan original r32 v spec- cause with Raws certification and compliance we add and change crap in apparent safety's sake.

Your discussion is 100% correct as evo 6 from factory has more widespread appeal than a highly modded older car- even if iris engenieered.

Price disparity between aus delivered rx7 and imports as well NSx honduhs. Factory delivered and released will be the investment choice. Even though jap import 2nd hand NSx are usually better spec

link above by stinky rooster,
aud9100,17bids,5days to go...... goes to show a collector is willing to pay more for an immaculate dead stock car.and original.lets say car was not a factory colour,i dont think would have fetched as much.very curious to see price auction closes off at.

there are so many factors affecting price that can't be summed up.Sometimes the buyer has the upper hand, sometimes the seller.Lancer Evo 6 are going for 16k now in oz.and these cars are very quick in factory form.could pick up r33s,s13s,180sx,skylines,chasers,300zx,etc etc (all turbocharged)for less than 12grand.Some sell for under 6grand.so some might weigh up the option of paying 12k for non-turbo sr20de motor 1200 datsun compared to other cars in terms of reliability, drivability, daily, power potential etc etc.Might have to be patient and wait for the right buyer.

I think most buyers don't look at labour costs and time involved.hence why alot of people make their cars stock and sell off parts separately.its gets to a point u know u won't get ur money and times worth back unless the right buyer whos specifically looking for what ur selling comes along.

also more often than not, supply and demand plays a part on prices of cars/goods.so cheaper in some countries while very expensive in others.

and rc, u culd be very right.120ys in the future would be very sought after.they too have gone up in price.i reckon 180bs in the future will also be sought after.

And some people do buy cars and lock them away as investments.i.e a low km R32gtr vspec in another ten years will be....

and btw, 180b sedans are now fetching btw Us 13000-20000dollars in japan.

In response to the title; They sell for whatever the buyer is willing to pay, they are certainly picking up momentum (desirability) and so is the prices. Another 5 or 8 years and the new prices will knock us off the chair! Lets see how the economy pans out.

They are very cheap in PNG. Parts are difficult to find and they (the 1200) are difficult to maintain due to the severe road conditions. I've secured a few and the prices are very low.

just got back from centre road and theres an awesome sunny coupe 1980 model just needs front guards repaired a few bubbles on doors but awesome tailgate and no rust anywhere else one owner must be saved from the vultures is too good a car.

I believe the 120y is easier to engineer with a turbo sr so might be sought after for that reason but the 1200 is still a coke bottle design that is hard to beat.

sometimes i think a day will come when 120y's are sought after more than the 1200s

the 120y has reputation, and everyone on the street - non car enthusiasts have heard of the 120Y (even if all they know is it's ugly )but not many car enthusiasts even know the 1200

so in the same way a terrible car like the beetle or mini can become collectable/classic, i can see the same for the 120Y

Dat51k - i just looked at your carsales advert, that is a wicked sedan and i love it, but to be perfectly honest (and i have no intention of upsetting you) those black wheels.... they look cheap, nasty, tacky, they are dragging that thing down massively, and they feature as the focal point in nearly every photo you have taken. They dont suit the build of the rest of the car and i just couldn't get my head around liking the car with those wheels

I honestly believe they alone are going to drag your sale price down

[edit] by the way i also think the same of my own car...

even if it had 30000 or 40000k's what ever the k's, knowing its condition just by looking at pics, 7000-8000 should pull it up

sure it may be neat and stuff but without some back story of it coming out of nissan museum how could you believe 10,000kms

only a complete nuffy would advertise a 1200 and try to use the km's (miles) the speedo reads as a selling point

the modern day equivalent is buying a suzuki swift (cheap, crappy econo box) no wait its a ute, a proton jumbuck? and stashing it away thinking it would be collectable

10,000kms in 30yrs.... seriously..... you would beleive that on a Lambo/R8/McLaren F1 in thirty years, but not a jumbuck

[edit] says it has logbooks with service history...lol....thats gonna be a short read, when was the first service interval on a 1200?

and as posted by stinky rooster on other thread

aud 6100, 12bids,6days 14 hours to go!! Dead stock ute apparently 10.000km!one owner deceased estate.try getting a coupe in similar condition...

whats the difference between a one owner car or a 10 owner car?lol a more detailed vehicle history.whats been done to car etc .No offence meant by using term "old" but generally, the old folk take better and more care of their cars than young folk.but thats my opinion from my exp.
