Cheers John.
Where do you buy speedo corrector boxes from?

That's pretty close to being 'proportionate' (in other words, for every 10 km/h of road speed it will read 3km/h differently.

This is good because it means that it could be corrected (or at least brought close enough to be more than satisfactory) by either the speedo corrector box, or a different speedo gear (if available)

What I'd also suggest is to see what the error is like at 140km/h or so. NOW I WANT TO BE CLEAR here - I DON'T MEAN to go out and do that sort of speed on the road, but if you carefully jack the car up and put axle stands under the resr axle tubes, and chock the front wheels (also have nobody in front or behind the car at the time) you can carefully get it up to that sort of speed in top gear, with the wheels off the ground. Obviously be ready with your left foot, resting on the brake pedal (very lightly) and be ready that if the car rocks or looks about to fall (which is highly unlikely if you place the stands properly) - you just jump on the brake pedal (lift off the accelerator at the same time) and let the car stall, it'll limit the 'jump' to a very short distance even if it did tip off the stands.

Anyway - get a look at what it is doing at that 'simulated' road speed - you might finally see it start to get a bit 'jumpy' with the needle jerking back and forth.

If that doesn't happy, the speedo internals are mostly in good shape, adn the altered drive gear/corrector box/ or simply just a home made guage 'sticker' with the speeds where they need to be to match the needle position at that speed - well - it means any of these will be very successful.

If it 'was' jumping back and forth a lot, you'll find that it'll likely get worse over time and a new sticker/decal or swapped gear or corrector box would only fix it for a short time.

Yea it is percentage. About 20km/h @60 and 30km/h @100

That sounds like a percentage. Is the error twice @ 100kph than it is @ 50 kph?

The problem is that if you fix it with conversion box or gear change, your odometer will be off.

I would take it to a speedometer shop or just swap in another good used speedometer.

Or you could hook it up to a drill and RPM gauge and set to the calibration number printed on the face.

Ok cheers DD

Think the error does get higher at faster speeds. I will check and report back

Perhaps. Our Speedometer article has links to recalibrating the magnet.

17.2
---
16.5

That is 4.2% difference. A one-tooth gear change is around 6%. So your odometer seems more or less correct.

Narrow it down further:
* Is your speedo off a percentage. For example: 30kph off at 100, 15kph off at 50? 45kph of at 150?

* Is it off a fixed 30 kph, regardless of high or low speed? What does it read at rest?

Does it have a conversion? Maybe the sticker is not on straight?

Ok guys I did the odometre test. According to GPS I drove 16.5km, according to dash odo it was 17.2km.
I read the wiki, correct me if I'm wrong but it doesnt sound like my odo is that far out? This must mean that the magnets are worn out?
