Its all about doing your research. I got my ute on what others would consider a steal. But I did my research on the net and looked at alot of vehicles before I bought mine.

=D cheers guys!
like lots of things its seems like they are a fair bit more $$ over here in Perth/W.A than east coast.
There's a few on Carsales ATM and one as low as $2500, of course over east.

Cars are so much better value over there!!

I thought I might have paid too much but now all this makes me feel ok about paying $3500 (licensed, fully stock except disc brake front) for mine

I think it has more to do with the fact that its pretty much the only half tonne ute ever built, that you can still get parts for, and you can fix yourself.

I mean, its either a 1200 ute, or a proton jumbuck.

not much of a desicion really, is it?

We have what I like to call "ute" tax, very similar to "AE86" tax in that people want too bloody much for them cos some idiots made them a cult car!

What's so hard about finding one? Do you have special requirements? Their are 13 Datsun 1200 utes on Carsales right now from $2500 on up. I had to wait four years to find even one for sale in my country and went two states away to get it.

I dont think it should be less than $3K if its licensed, running and not in immediate need of major surgery.

Its the ballpark figure I paid for mine, with std 1200, full zorst, elec dizzy, 120Y front struts with disc brakes, dual circuit master cylinder and a 60 series dogleg 5 speed and 2 sets of mags in the tray.

Rust is minimal for its age, but it needed a full front end rebuild, new carpets and a radio before i was happy to use it as a daily.

Hope this helps.
